How about conference championship game talk. I believe it is the first weekend in December, site to be determined.
amen brother. venerable ol' AGC would even look good to me after our drought.
smumustangs.com says it's on Dec. 1st, which is a Friday. I guess for TV reasons. Friday would be tougher to get to. Any ideas who the frontrunner in the East would be?
not ECU not Memphis (lost to Ark St!) perhaps Southern Miss?
Are you F'ing kidding me?!? SMU makes its first bowl in 22 years and you would rather go watch the number 4 teams from the Big 12 and the Big 10!!! I question your loyalties. The donkey's name is Kiki.
On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney? Good, Bad...I'm the one with the gun.
Isn't USM in the East? They just beat UH by 10 at the Rock. I think SMU can beat UH again, especially on Homecoming.
If, and a big if, the Ponies win at ECU and then beat UAB at home on Halloween, you have 11 days to prepare for Houston. That sets up a bang-up game against Tulsa. Rice on the road may be a load.
Bowl talk is waaay too early. Get 3 more wins and we can talk about whether we'll go to a bowl. Get 5 more and we can talk about where we'll go bowling. (remember that the win over SHSU won't count toward a bowl since that's a 1-aa program)
If we get two more wins (6 wins) we will be bowl-eligible. While we aren't the most appetizing team for a bowl to take (just look at our attendance), I do not think CUSA will be able to get enough teams bowl-eligible to use all of the automatic bids.
Maybe if the bowl game was played in Ford Stadium. I question whether SMU would bring more than 1,000 for a game against TCU in Ft Worth. Remember, this will be played oer Chistmas break and the students will be gone.
2 things I would like to comment on.
Screw bowl talk, what about the CUSA Championship game? We beat Marshall missing our 2 starting DE's, RB, and a QB that practiced very little. If our QB played against UTEP we would be sitting atop CUSA right now. We go out to Greenville and kick some Pirate booty we are in a really good position. 3 of the 4 games left we play are at home. Only road game is at Rice. Houston is homecoming and Tulsa is the next week for all the marble's if we don't give one away to ECU or UAB. UTEP has Houston and Tulsa on the road the next few weeks so look for a loss there. Also, SCREW the students. Like there were more than 500 at the game yesterday. They are a pathetic excuse for fans and if there was a bowl game then I can promise you that it would not matter if the same 500 showed up or not. The people that the bowls want are the Alum's that eat, drink, and get hotel rooms. Of course the Armed Services bowl would be ideal since we can just drive to Ft. Worth. The way the Frog's are going the AF bowl just might offer up TCU/SMU if we slip up along the way and don't win the CUSA Championship. One other bowl option is the Poinsetta bowl. MWC vs. at large team. San Diego is better than Fort Worth. Class of '91

If this team keeps playing the way they are, a CUSA championship game is not out of the question. However, for that to happen UTEP will have to lose two conference games. I believe if we're tied in the west we'll lose the tie-breaker to UTEP based on the head-to-head loss. I am always sad to see how poor the student support is for SMU athletics. It has been that way for years and years and years. It goes beyond the death penalty and beyond the athletic department. There's no real loyalty or attachment to the school at all by the students that I've seen. There's no sense of what it means to be an SMU student. No big traditions that everyone knows about and takes part in. I think the school and athletic department have tried over the years to generate excitement among the students, but it has largely failed. The question is, what can we do about it?
