Real Deal with Hasson and Sledge

Postby Midleyan_Park » Mon Oct 16, 2006 2:40 pm

There has been way too much controversy and people not knowing what exactly happened the night Hasson and Sledge "got in trouble". I was there when it happened and this whole thing has been completely blown out of proportion. A friend that some players knew apparently ran into a girl and some random people there got angry and tried to start a fight. The lights at the bar then went on and they were relocated outside. Hasson proceeded to talk a police officer (and was completely sober) to get a friend out of trouble. They threw him to the ground and maced him. Sledge then came outside to tell the cops that Hasson was innocent and he was just trying to get his friend out of trouble. Sledge was also sober, and despite what the paper says, because I know the writers of DMN were not there, Sledge tapped a police officer and the shoulder to tell him that Hasson wasn't involved. The officer grabbed Sledge, maced him as well, and three or four cops threw him to the ground. Both Sledge and Hasson were trying to get their friends out of trouble and did not harrass the officers. There should not be any more discussion over Sledge and Hasson because we know their reputation and what stand out guys they really are. Lets talk about next week and beating ECU. GO STANGS

The thing that isn't good for Duke.. if it's true that Medical School is in his near future.. a rap sheet doesn't look good at all. Hopefully he gets cleared.
What we obtain too cheap.. we esteem too lightly. It is persistence alone that gives everything its value.

I wouldn't get worked up about it, if I were him... if it truly is a P.I., that's a class C misdemeanor... no different from a traffic ticket. He can either just pay the fine, or he can contest it... and in that case it most likely will be dismissed.

Now if there's something we are not being told... that's a different story.

What the heck is up with the Dallas Police then. If all the stories we hear are true, they have maced two of our players and tazered another.... what gives?

That really is the whole deal. Nothing left out. And the Dallas Police are apparently on a huge power trip right now. There have been stories like this all over campus this year.

Unfortunately, even touching a police officer has become a big deal. Most people don't understand it. I got my lesson when I tried to shake hands with a HP officer who originally thought I had been drinking at the five way stop on Preston, around 10:00PM on Sunday night. My car wouldn't engage. After we got it sorted out, I thanked him, and tried to shake his hand. He told me all sorts of reasons why he couldn't, but primarily for his safety. It was also department policy.

I don't believe it is right what happened to our players, but they need to be warned that crime has gotten so bad, that these officers, good or bad are real defensive about being touched or even approached, particularily on a late Saturday night.

if you even touch an officer w/ your finger, say a poke that is assault on an officer.. never been arrested for this but i have been warned and seen many other people threatened by cops for doing this..

Right now? They have been for a while. I really respect the profession and I'm sure there are a lot of great guys that are on the DPD, but from a couple of experiences I've had and I've heard about, some are really on a terrible power trip.

There was an incident about a year ago when they beat up one of the roller derby girls in Deep Ellum.

Great Point, Can't touch this...

Always talk up from a distance, and never touch a cop.

I'm sure that was the same departmental reason that they tazered Demyron a few months ago.

I can't speak to the use of tazers--but our students and student-athletes better understand that these are not the campus police. These are young officers that have drawn one of the worst assignments in Dallas, Deep Elm on Saturday night, they might want to compare their stories concerning tazering with shooting incidents.

They really need to use some common sense when dealing with officers that feel every Saturday night is a battle zone. Not saying the officers were correct in any way, but unless you are drunk why would anyone in their right mind want to initiate an argument with a police officer.

*tap tap*...why are you arresting my friend who did nothing wrong?

ow my eyes burn, ouch the curb hit my nuts, ow my arms hurt when being twisted behind my back, these cuffs are tight...*sigh*

Such an argument.

Exactly! Approach an officer from behind, late Saturday night, touch him on the shoulder and see what happens. I am not saying it is right, just what will probably happen. Use your common sense!
