Also, SCREW the students. Like there were more than 500 at the game yesterday. They are a pathetic excuse for fans and if there was a bowl game then I can promise you that it would not matter if the same 500 showed up or not.

I agree 100%! If this team keeps playing the way they are, a CUSA championship game is not out of the question. However, for that to happen UTEP will have to lose two conference games. I believe if we're tied in the west we'll lose the tie-breaker to UTEP based on the head-to-head loss.

I am always sad to see how poor the student support is for SMU athletics. It has been that way for years and years and years. It goes beyond the death penalty and beyond the athletic department. There's no real loyalty or attachment to the school at all by the students that I've seen. There's no sense of what it means to be an SMU student. No big traditions that everyone knows about and takes part in. I think the school and athletic department have tried over the years to generate excitement among the students, but it has largely failed.

The question is, what can we do about it?

Important game to watch... UTEP @ Tulsa... Tulsa beats utep, we beat tulsa, we then need utep to lose again... thats of course if we only have 1 loss in cusa

CUSA championship game is a stretch for us, but I'm not sure UTEP goes undefeated.

They play Coog High @ Houston, then turnaround & play @ Tulsa the next Friday. The cusa West is still wide open with a handful of teams in the hunt.

If we end up 7-5 that is no sure thing. I believe back in 1999 or 2000 Kim Helton of UofH Cougars went 7-4 and Ken Hatfield's Rice Owls went 7-4 in the same year and neither got a bowl bid. I could be wrong on the records, but I am pretty sure they both had seven wins. The field must have been pretty good that year.
I think we have to win four of the next five to end up at 8-4 and get a bowl game. Our two toughest games are going to be against Houston and Tulsa. I just hope we beat Rice in Houston. It would be the first time we have won at Rice since 1986. Before last year's victory over UofH in Houston, we had not won on Houston soil since 1986. SMU has to take care of business and that means 8 wins.

With all the conference bowl tie-ins things are different unless it is musical chairs with one more elligible team than tie-ins. Regardless, at 7-5 I think we will look better than some 6-6 elligible teams. 8)

You'll probably love to here that the students who have night classes the night of the UAB game can't attend because the school didnt cancel classes. The school obviously doesn't care to much about the student section either.[/code]
