News Story on Hasson and SledgeFootball players maced by DPD
Mark Norris, Managing Editor, [email protected] Issue date: 10/17/06 Section: News Two SMU football players were arrested this weekend after an incident early Sunday morning during a football players' party at Metro Grill. "Runnin' with the 'Stangs" host senior Duke Hasson and junior wide receiver Zach Sledge were taken into police custody and released around 11 a.m. the same day according to Dallas Police reports obtained by The Daily Campus. Both were charged with public intoxication. But the police report has Hasson charged with assault on a police officer - not Sledge, as was reported in Monday editions of The Dallas Morning News. The episode occured days after quarterback Justin Willis was reinstated after a suspension due to an incident at an off-campus gathering before the UT-El Paso game. SMU Athletics officials had no official comment, but the situation is being dealt with internally. As of Monday, neither player had been suspended for Saturday's game against East Carolina. Dallas Police say they responded to a disturbance call at the bar at 1:30 a.m. According to a witness at the scene who wished to remain anonymous, the disturbance began when two male students got into an altercation. Hasson reportedly knew one of the students and took them outside to try and resolve the situation. By the time police arrived on the scene, the dispute was in the parking lot. According to a witness, police maced the two students and Hasson and handcuffed him. When that occurred, Sledge came outside to talk with the officers. The witness said the police officer did not respond to Sledge, so Sledge tapped the officer on the shoulder. The officer responded by putting Sledge on the ground, spraying him with mace and eventually handcuffing him. Another witness said that they later observed officers pouring water over Sledge's face, presumably to rinse out the mace. Sledge caught a 7-yard touchdown pass last Saturday against Marshall. He is the sixth-ranked receiver for SMU in passing yards. Hasson is the holder for field goals and is on punt coverage in addition to signaling plays from the sideline.

Is that not the craziest left turn you have ever read in an article? ![]() Eric Dickerson in Pony Excess "I've love winning man, it's like better than losing." - Ebby Calvin "Nuke" LaLoosh
Re: News Story on Hasson and SledgeThat was for stallion's benefit since he doesn't seem to know what Zach does. ![]()
I am going to sneak my question into this thread one last time then I promise to quit, although I would still like an answer. Why are these 2 suspended and Willis was suspended, but Emmanuel Sanders was not suspended. He did everything and more that the others did but has received no known punishment or suspension. Lord knows I want all SMU players to be free and playing but I cannot get the disparate treatment out of my mind. Something is just not right when the police report that I read had Sanders actually speaking the slur, hitting the alleged victim and from what I read somewhere he was the one that hit the female. Someone in the know please let me know why no open punishment.
Maybe it was due to the fact that Beard did not identify him as saying "FA*" or maybe it was because Sanders did not actually "HIT" Beard. I know he was apart of this due to it being said by reports but maybe Sanders part in it was just being there and talking trash with Willis to Beard.
If Sanders did something wrong, he would have been punished. I am sure he either got more study hours as a suspension or punishment runs as one.
The police report posted on here said he did both. Now I quit.
sanders was on pace to break a record.... and had we suspended him it wouldnt have been in consecutive games just consecutive games played.... ![]()
Yes, I know that it said he was involved but the trick in most reports is what is not actually said that should be said.
It may have identified him as helping out Willis but i know it didnt say he said the F-word directed at Beard. Maybe Justin took full blame for what happenend and told PB that Sanders was just there and didnt physically touch Beard.
THATS IT...*hint my scarcasm*....PB was more concerned about Sanders breaking a record instead of getting punished....
PB wouldnt say ok justin you took all the blame so sanders can play... "You can't say bomb on a plane sir... "
HAHA, maybe...but it is just another UNSOLVED mystery that the Athletic Department will sweep under the rug like they have down with so many other things that have gone wrong with in the Dept.
Let's hope so. The Tubbs thing sure turned out well for us.
I do not understand why these guys are being suspended. Wrong place-wrong time-make them run a few sprints and be done with it.
I know PB said these 2 players would not make the trip to ECU with the team, BUT did he actually say they were suspended?
I dont know if there is a big difference between being suspended and not making the trip. When you are suspended, you cannot participate in any team function. IE: Willis was not allowed to practice or come to team meetings. Are Sledge and Hasson able to practice? Because if they are, they have NOT been suspended, just penalized for being at "the wrong place at the wrong time" by not being allowed to travel. Can someone clear this up for me>?
