ECU is a better teamModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower

People can still hope for a bowl game. In spite of our loss today we still have a very good shot at being 6-6. And while 6-6 is by no means a slam dunk to get a bowl (it would be slim chances), it IS good enough to be bowl eligible.
ECU is simply a better team than we are. I am not happy about that, but for some reason I am not overwhelmingly dissappointed. I guess that the [deleted] whooping by UNT tempered my expectations so much that losing to a decent ECU team does not make me want to hit things. Who would we consider our biggest victory of the season? A terrible Tulane team on the road or a mediocre Marshall team at home? A bowl is still a slim possibility but the reality is this team is merely average in a below average football conference.
Good luck to you the rest of the way. I thought your QB and that WR looked very good. Looked better than the team I saw last year.
Well, I guess we shall see in the draft <shrug>. I'll eat my foot if the NFL drafts Allison or Dillard before Higgins.
Really? I think giving up over 400 yards passing probably was the biggest culprit. Tulsa (a good team) held ECU to 92 yards passing last week and beat them soundly. It really isn't that complicated.
In the Tulsa game, ECU threw the ball 28 times and ran the ball 26 times.
Tulsa ran the ball **54** times and passed the ball 21 times. Tulsa had **16** more minutes of possession than ECU. Pinkney had a lot more control of the course of the game against us...they could drop back, dump the ball off and abuse our secondary all day. They were never behind and desperate to play catch up. Tulsa also has the #1 pass D in the league...
NFL draft Scout.com had Allison as the #2 senior WR behind the guy from Notre Dame Samarsa. You are wrong. Sorry Phil Steel Best WR's nationally #31 Allison ECU #43 Higgins UTEP #44 Mike Walker UCF I would say that's about correct. He has been injured this season and missed some games he wasn't even 100% for this last game yet he limped around and still torch you and made you look silly. He is the best WR hands down and possibly the best player in CUSA.
We also didn't have Aundre Allison, our #2 WR, and our #3 playing with a broke foot, not to mention Pinkney missed practice with a sore elbow. 13 catches 138 yards Allison is a difference maker.
Hurt receivers beat us more than healthy ones...i.e. Allison and Quinn at UNT.
Your boy Allison isn't good, he's great, but having seen them both play and looking at the stats to date I would draft Higgins.
Well back from Greenville. Skip Holtz had a great game plan for our pass defense. He kept running those sideline patterns with an occasional screen version until we thought about biting and then he'd throw long. Pinkney threaded the needle several times and their receivers made some great catches and dropped some when they were wide open. I would have liked to have had several calls go our way which might have made the game a bit more interesting. But bottom line, they beat us. The plays that might have changed things: Early in the Second half, Pinkney was tackled in the endzone and the refs gave him forward progress to the one foot line. He dove and then stepped back and then was tackled. Should have been a safety. The punt return, the late flag with no number called out, was disappointing to say the least. And the wide out stretching for the goal line actually threw the ball short of the endzone and it rolled out, should have been a touch back, but the refs called him out of bounds at the three. Again, we got beat, but it could have been a bit more interesting.
I can agree with all you said but the "safety". On video he was clearly to the 6" line and knocked backwards. I was hoping they might miss it and call a safety but with replay it would have been easily over ruled. Also on the dropped ball at the end zone, the replay available would never have been able to determine the "fumble" before crossing the pylon. There was not a good enough angle for them to have changed the call. On the other side, had they called it a fumble, there was not a good enough angle for them to have changed that. Thanks for the first hand analysis. Wish you could have witnessed a victory for your travel.
