webfeet wrote:Slater has started 2 games yes, UTEP we were suppose to lose by 14 and only lost by 3. The 2nd half he tore it up in the rain and with a crowd of 40000 fans against him. And he was given the first Quarter in the Marshell game and he held his own but was replaced in 2nd quarter by JW and he didn't do well until the 3rd or 4th qtr. Justin willis was given the first 2 games and you think he looked better then slater. UTEP played Texas Tech to a 38-35 game I believe. So they played fairly even teams but the game slater played was a lot better.

I can't believe I am getting suckered into responding to this thread...

Against Marshal - Slater didn't do anything with his start...Willis came in and on his first drive drove us to paydirt.

More stats for the arguement:
Willis has the 4th best completion percentage in the country
His TD/INT ratio is also 4th in the nation
10th best Passer rating
Slater's 82.1 passer rating would put him 115th in the nation.
He has one more TD than our wide receiver has but 4 more INTs

He's serious, BTW. This guy has a dozen posts dating back to January and every one is about Slater.

This quote from one of the earlier ones may shed some light on his motivations.
These opinions are just mine his Dad's and not Corey's. So don't hold anything against him for what I have said. I am just trying to fill in some blanks about who Corey Slater is.

Personally, I don't think choosing a quarterback based on the logic that he helped the team lose by less then it was supposed to is all that sound.

I knew I remembered some relationship. I was about to go look for this, but you beat me to it, jt.

I just saying this board is so pumped up on Justin Willis and when things go bad it is someone elses fault. Lets blame the defense, bad coaching plays.

Okay. I blame Willis for all of our losses this year. However, given the fact that he is still statistically one of the top QB's in the country, and a freshman to boot, I think we should stick with him as the starter. We have nothing better for fair weather games, because obviously coming from Seattle, and as evidenced by the UTEP half you mentioned, Slater needs a deluge to be effective, and we're still in a drought in Texas.

Relax, everyone. Many of us -- especially family members -- have a favorite player. If my son was a reserve, I'd want to see him play, too. There's nothing wrong with enthusiastic support, as long as it's for the Mustangs.

As long as we win, I don't care if Peruna himself lines up under center.

This "Slater over Willis" nonsense has got to be a JOKE! I mean c'mon, just because you are close to Corey doesn't mean you should lose your grip on reality...Corey is clearly a good player, and like an earlier post said, I would feel totally confident if he had to step in and play, but to tell me that Slater should be be put in to replace our starting QB who is in the top 10 IN THE COUNTRY statistically, is mobile, and is clearly the leader of the team, is absolutely ludicrous....

Webfeet...please just look at the stats that some of the folks posted earlier...Look at Willis' TD and Interception ratios compared to Slater's...Slater has more pics than Willis despite the fact willis has throw around 130 more passes this season...Tell me how I can ignore those facts and decide to support Slater as our starter. I can't imagine you addressing the STATISTICS and being able to make a decent argument.

I hate that this seems like I am dogging on Corey...I AM NOT! I just couldn't believe it when I read it...maybe Big10 is right and webfeet is just trying to stir up a commotion...

Ludicrous Speed...NOW!
Let me explain something to you. I am not "Mr. Lebowski". You're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me.

Until Willis has a bad game throwing more INTs than TDs, we can talk about Slater playing.

Willis beat out Slater fair and square in Spring and Fall practice.

I am sorry webfoot, even if you are Coreys Dad, but lets let Willis start until something goes wrong.

Even if Willis were to spit the bit in one of the remaining games, there should not be any talk of a QB controversy or a QB change...Willis is a FRESHMAN performing at a very high level for his lack of experience. If he went 0-20 with 4 pics next game, the should still be the starter as he is the type of player who can be a legitimate difference maker...Slater, while a nice player, is not, as far as I can tell, a difference maker. When Willis is at the controls of the offense, I am confident that he is goig to make plays both with his arm and with his feet, and that a big play could come at any moment. I do not have that sense of anticipation with Slater under center...

It would take more than a couple of bad Willis games for Slater to even be considered to start.

There is nothing worse than a QB by committee or a QB who feels like if he plays bad for a game or two that his job will be taken. Willis is great because it his job and he can play with the complete confidence that he does not have to look over his shoulder if he has an off night (which he has yet to do this entire season!!!)

I'm sure if he didnt complete a pass on 20 attempts and threw more than 3 picks...we might have a QB change just to see if we can get something goin.
