Hey now -- there's no reason to make our logo small, is there?

Ahh, they'll think they are looking at the ESPN2 "play-on-acronym" but really their subconscious will be picking up the "subtle-yet-powerful" Ponyfans reference.

Gee and you wonder why none of the Eighties players give a damn about their alma mater. You know there are former players posting on this board who you are indicting with your post. Really why should any of these guys lift their left pinkie to help SMU when they get treated like you have treated Craig James and by extension every single player from that era. You don't even know that Craig James was paid to play at SMU. Do you know what you are talking about or are you just defaming him without any idea of the facts or the scope of his possible involvement in the allegations of cheating You ought to learn something from Coach Doherty. Jon Koncak admits receiving extra benefits yet Doherty embraces him to sperak at the Tip Off Luncheon. And if you are going to call out one for cheating then call them all out for cheating and that includes your precious Lance Mcilhenny and Bobby Leach and other greats who played in that era. Let'sjust expunge the whole damn decade from the SMU record book but please don't claim those players just when its convenient to talk about SMU Football glory.

I for one love Craig James, but that doesn't mean it's not funny to make fun of the Death Penalty. I have no idea who got paid, after all I was still running around in diapers, and I sure as hell don't blame any of them for taking money. I am just proud that they played here and once upon a time people actually feared playing the 'Stangs.

Having said that, someone needs to clue me in on all of the Craig James specific bashing that is going on. People have claimed that he is down on SMU, but the times I have seen him mention SMU it has been in a supportive way.

For those who haven't seen or heard our illustrious alum in the booth... well, you are in for a painful night. He did an NFL game a few years ago and I wanted to kill myself.

The two things that he said that set off the Craig James bashing was when Illinois pulled their upset earlier in the year against Michigan State I think it was and he said that Illinois was one of the worst teams in college football down there with the ranks of SMU. The other time was when he said that we should lower our graduation rate to have a decent football team.

The insults were totally unwarranted and pretty much off-topic, specifically the first one. I do appreciate what he did while at SMU and I've heard that he has been supportive in the past, but if he's going to bash us on TV, he also needs to show the nation that we're improving. Tonight may very well be the opportunity for him to realize and air to the nation the light-years this program has made since just a few years ago.

Stallion, you make some good points. I, for one, don't care at this point whether CJ was paid or not. What hacks me off is when he drops unsolicited shots at SMU on national TV when his alma mater isn't even the topic of discussion. For that, he should be ashamed.

I guess the reason for the slap Craig signs is to give the broadcasting team some ammo if the game gets boring and they want to do some Craig James teasing on air. I'm sure they'll put a picture of him in uniform and tease him about that. You know the DP will be mentioned if not discussed in detail. So, we might as well show the world that we do have a sense of humor about ourselves and if we didn't whistle past the death penalty we'd go crazy. Cancel that thought, I know I'm crazy.
