Tulsa and Houston are already in ...

3 of these teams will make it to a bowl

5-5 UTEP plays at Marshall and Memphis - likely 7-5

6-4 S. Miss hosts UAB and Marshall - likely 8-4

6-4 ECU plays at Rice and at NC State - likely 6-6

5-5 SMU plays Tulsa and at Rice - likely ?

5-5 Rice hosts ECU and SMU - likely ?

Rice plays ECU, so Rice gets 6 or ECU gets 7, so really there are only 2 more slots available for SMU...and UTEP has one of them, leaving one to be divided between S.Miss (6-4), ECU or Rice, or SMU.

hmmmn good point. So if we win out, we're in, Rice is out. Highly unlikely though, but we can if we don't play like we did last weekend.

read YOU MAKE THE CALL - I added the two 6-4 teams from the East...

Utep will finish 7-5, so SMU would have to knock out one of the 6-4 teams to get in...

I would add Tulsa to the on the bubble list. If SMU beats Tulsa and Rice then SMU goes to a bowl. If SMU loses to Tulsa or Rice the winner of that game goes to a bowl. We need to run the table at this point.

Tulsa has already qualified for a bowl at 7 wins. There would have to be 6 seven win teams for Tulsa to get knocked out of a bowl.

ECU has @ Rice and @ NC State remaining on their schedule...they could end 6-6 as well...but if they did that would mean we would HAVE to beat Rice to finish 6-6 or 7-5 depending on the Tulsa game.

if ECU finishes 6-6-that means Rice will have beaten ECU(ECU already has 6 wins) so Rice would be at least 6-5 (bowl eligible) with SMU to play.

Looking at the remaining schedules, UTEP has the advantage with the easiest remaining schedule. (Marshall and Memphis). The Rice and SMU remaining schedules are toss ups. (Rice has ECU and SMU) (SMU has Tulsa and Rice) So it appears the head to head matchup with Rice will be critical to have any chance of tieing UTEP.

It doesnt say anywhere that a 7 win team must be taken before a 6 win team...while some might see a 7 win team as more desirable...if that team a.k.a. Tulsa collapses at the end of the year someone might take a 6 win team that has stepped it up in the latter weeks

That's why I said we have to beat Tulsa and Rice. If we beat both of them, then we go bowling. If we lose to either one of them, then that team will likely get the open spot.

If we win out.. I cannot imagine that the armed forces bowl will not do everything in their power to match us up against TCU assuming TCU stays at 3rd or 4th in the Mountain W..

looking at TCU they are 7-2 and have two winnables in their last three (SDSU, CSU, AF).. but if they lose to Air Force then they would drop to 4th.. I don't know the bowl outlook for the Mountain West.. but if they finish 4th, the armed forces bowl might be the best they get offered..

Here is the key .. If we are bowl eligible.. The armed forces bowl will be silly if they don't make an offer to TCU and us.. they have not had the greatest attendence the last couple of years.. A 1st bowl game for us and a Bowl Skillet matchup.. that would be sweet..

That is an NCAA rule. Look it up.

30.9.2.1 Exception -- 12 Game Season
An institution with a record of six wins and six losses may be selected for participation in a bowl game under the following circumstances: (Adopted: 4/27/06 effective 8/1/06)

(a) The institution or its conference has a primary contractual affiliation, which existed prior to the first contest of the applicable season, with the sponsoring bowl organization. In the case of a conference contractual affiliation, all conference teams with winning records must be placed in one of the contracted bowl games before any institution with a record of six wins and six losses may be placed in a contracted bowl game. There shall be no contingency agreements with other sponsoring bowl organizations intended to enable an institution with a record of six wins and six losses to become eligible for those contests; or

(b) All contractual affiliations per Bylaw 30.9.2.1-(a) have been fulfilled and all institutions with winning records have received bowl invitations (either through a contractual affiliation or as an at-large selection).
