Willis = future heisman??

Postby NickSMU17 » Sun Nov 19, 2006 12:20 am

By the time this guy is a senior, I think he may be a legit Heisman candidate...He has improved each game and I would expect if he can stay focused and dedicated he should be a candidate his senior year.

Big Win. 1 more to go and I can get my hotel reservations done.

Just because he has had a good season is in no way to say he is a heisman hopefull! I think Justin can be a great QB but in no way or shape should you start saying he is a heisman hopefull.

Why not? 26 TD's, 4 interceptions... Those are Willis's stats this year. That's impressive, and it's even more impressive since he is a freshman. Numbers catch the media eye.

I just hope that Willis can do for SMU what Doug Flutie did for Boston College... Get us on the map. (And hopefully out of C-USA - Eventually, that is)

Willis won't win it because he doesn't play against good enough competition....Plus hes also in the same class as Colt McCoy and maybe Josh Freeman of Kansas St. Those two QBs alone will be dominating the Big 12 for the next 3 years. Hes a good player to build the team around, but def. not good enough for the Heisman.

Not good enough? I don't know if we can say that, he's been lights out for us.

On the wrong team in the wrong conference? That's probably more true.

Long way to go to even become a GOOD quarterback? Are you serious? Maybe you're looking at a different guy. Willis is the quarterback. Wears No. 16. Redshirt freshman. You've seen him -- he makes plays week after week after week.
He's not going to win the Heisman, because he doesn't play for a team in a BCS (read: "heavy TV exposure"), but to say he's not a good quarterback, and far from being even a good player is just beyond debate.

Willis is a good quarterback but he still hase many strides to make to become a great quarterback. For starters people need to look at his stats yes, he has only thrown what 3-4 interceptions, but what about how all the fumbles he has had? Take that into consideration. A turn over is a turn over. Why must any good performance be associated with the heisman? Geez people wake up and smell the coffee. He has performed pretty well for us this season but there are going to be ups and downs. Look at that RB WOLFE...he has carried his team on his back and is not mentioned what makes you think Willis will ever be. He's a good quarterback and seems to play with a lot of emotion, which is good because it shows he is willing to put the team ahead of himself (in some instances) but the frigin Heisman...get real

Let's start at where he is today. He has cemented a 2nd team Freshman All-American selection. The kid at UT just gets more media exposure. He will be lucky to make 3rd team all-conference since coaches love to reward seniors and I get the feeling that Palmer and Pinkney will get the 2nd and 3rd spots with Kolb pickingup 1st team. He has the Freshman team position locked since there is no other Freshman QB's out there. The only other player that has a shot at Freshman of the Year is the USM RB Damion Fletcher who has rushed for over 1240 yards this year with a game to go.

Whomever for heisman is always a good PR tactic to get media attention. Still should wait until his junior year. 8)

he doesn't play good enough against good competition teams?? let's look at this.. this is his first year as the starting qb.. he has had his mistakes.. and obviously he has learned from them or else he would not have improved every game.. meaning he is going to come out next season and the season after that with more knowledge on how to adjust to the game and how to keep is posier during the game to make plays happen

SMU would have to become a Boise State on steroids for JW to be even sniffed at for Heisman. And, more than likely it would have to be for 2 years straight--his Jr and Sr years.

The Heisman goes to the BEST PLAYER IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL. For JW to be considered that he would singlehandedly have to carry SMU back to the glory days and regain us national prominence and respect. TALL FRICKIN ORDER.

Posting threads like this is sort of embarrassing knowing that outsiders visit this site.

There is no way that Colt is better than Willis. Colt is surrounded by some of the best athletes in Texas and cant put up the numbers that Willis has. And as for drs1301 how can you say that all he wants to do is run. Do you watch the games? Willis holds on to the ball forever trying to make a play down field. He is the least flighty qb we have had in quite a while.
