They haven't taking down any seats except for one end zone. Future plans are to reduce the size of the stadium like Stanford. However, they have replaced wooden seats with aluminum, added Field Turf, painted field walls, added a new scoreboard with video screen and other amenities.

I predict 20,000. Approx. 20,070, if the band makes it.

It just won't be a Rice game without the free souvenir rear end splinters...

This just in and as posted in another thread. The band that is still in town, and the alumni band are making the trip to Rice.
Since the alumni band is going, I am sure we will see the point spread change shortly. As Jerry Levias said, "The biggest thugs in this school, are in the band."
Just send 'da money.

Well that definitely didn't last long for Rice. The line is already down to 1.5 favoring Rice.

If you check the other Rice thread it seems likely that Rice's starting QB will be out. That probably made the change.

No, DM75 is serious. The line moved because of us and the alums. We are THAT important.

ok well since this is a point spread thread not an attendance thread... I will mostly like put money on this game if the the -1.5 holds until friday afternoon. i normally don't bet on SMU because it is too close to my heart, but I made a killing on the mavs in the nba finals betting the over/under. I would give it an "expony rating" of 4 horseshoes , on a scale of 1-5 horseshoes... this rating will be updated friday

Actually they took out seats from both endzones. The bulk of the endzone steps are now covered with tarps, however, there are large sections along the sidelines past the goal lines where it's just the concrete steps. At the games those have proven quite popular. You can bring a blanket and set up a little area like you're at an outdoor concert.
Here are pictures of the full process from another Rice alum:

The official attendance for UH was about 23k. I imagine that given the meaning of this game for both SMU and Rice we'll see about 17-18k.
BTW, seated (i.e. with seat numbers, etc.) capacity is now 47k.
