This was the best year at Ford StadiumTake a step back and think of what a great year it was to be at Ford. We went 5-1, the best record that facility has ever seen.
We scored 45, 55, 31, 22, 27 and 34 points in the six games (35.6 avg.). The offense, was better than in previous years. Wish the running game was a little more consistent. Defense was OK but overall pretty decent. Had a defensive score against UAB, blocked punts against Sam Houston State and Houston. We saw the great Zach Sledge throw a touchdown pass to Bobby Chase. We rallied in the fourth quarter to win games against Marshall, UAB and Tulsa. We saw the growth and a record-setting season by a REDSHIRT FRESHMAN quarterback Justin Willis. We saw some other freshmen show flashes in James Mapps and Bryann McCann. Like everybody, I want to see two more SMU football games this year. But we got our $$ worth from the boys. I'm coming back for my eighth season at Ford Stadium in 2007. I hope more will come.
I agree with you Big 10, Bobs steakhouse will donating a lot of money this year with our 35.6 avg. The games have been exciting and a lot of fun. It looks like SMU might finally be learning how to win. How many games in the past few years have been close going into the 4th only to see us lose one way or the other. We have not been perfect this year but are definately showing the close out instinct.
It has been interesting to see Bennett grow over the past 5 years. He seems much more calm and relaxed this year. I know winning is a big part of that. We have come a long from KK left, KK right, incomplete pass on 3rd down, punt (maybe blocked).
Or they could donate the proceeds from a Ponyfans.com dinner at Bob's and we could double it. I have been witness to several tabs that were bigger at Bob's in the last few years. Class of '91
hard to imagine that smu was 0-12 a couple years ago, no matter how you u look at it phil bennet's done a great job. we got skill players that are exciting to watch every game who are gettin the students out to support and lose their voices by the end of the game...the bright light is heating me up at the end of the tunnel
I am excited as can be that we are bowl eligible for the first time since DP but I have a hard time saying that PB has done a great job being that he has yet to secure his first winning season in 5 years here. In fact, if we don't win Saturday, I would say he has done a below average job just because I would expect 1 winning record in 5 seasons as head coach.
there is little question the program is moving in the right direction...perhaps not at the pace most would have liked...but progress is being made. It was an impressive run at Ford Stadium this year, although disappointing we couldn't attract more fans and lost the homecoming game. I'm looking forward to the day SMU always draws somewhere in the mid 20's or better and puts together a home winning streak well into double figures. No reason we can't accomplish what Boise and TCU have.
i know i always bring this up but.... Frank beamer didnt go to a bowl game until his 7th season at Va Tech
Speaking of Bob's Steak and Chop House, I drove by the location at Wycliff and Lemmon last night, and it was surrounded by fire trucks. It looked like the interior had suffered some significant damage. Does anybody know what happened and how bad the fire actually was?
The donkey's name is Kiki.
On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney? Good, Bad...I'm the one with the gun.
saw on the news there was a fire in the kitchen I believe. Looked bad on the news, they'll be close for a while to remodel
I forgot to mention that some of your sports champions were:
Baseball: New York Mets (rallied to defeat the Boston Red Sox in 7 games) Football: New York Giants (won the Super Bowl in 1987) College Basketbll: Louisville (beat Duke for the title at Reunion Arena) College Football: Penn State (beat Miami in the Fiesta Bowl)
