Okay, I know I will get flack on this. But What about the Players We have had and the ones We have now? We have great Talent dieing on the vine.
Talent is God's Gift, It has to be Cultivated and Utilized. If the coaches had been doing their job. Believe me We would have won every Game.We have Players that could of gone anywhere, but they were promised too much that never came to life. My Goodness, You have players and I know one that was offered by the Best 5 out of the top 10 winning Colleges in the nation. Willis was not. But even the other players had great offers.
Enough Press about Willis. QB's are suppose to lead, Aren't they? To lead, you need respect from the team. Has anyone thought how these players feel with Willis threats. They are not happy about this. With all the confusion that is going on now, How can you get decent Recuits? They can get a good education from any College they choose. Football, another thing.
These players like Bennett, But he better clean House. If he doesn't, The program will never get any better.

Mi Mi, what do you think that posting on a message board that our players were promised things that were never delivered does to help recruiting?
I'm right there with you on the fact that Phil's staff hasn't had the guts to put young guys out there too develop, but I think it's also not right that we would have won every game if he had.

A lot of what you say may be true, but to say we would have won every game is just inaccurate. Every team has talent now, every team has guys who are big and strong and fast. There are a lot of issues at play when a team wins or loses a game.
My only issue with your post is in this statement: "They can get a good education from any College they choose. Football, another thing."
Are you suggesting that high school kids should pick a college based on football only? It's still college. The students who attend SMU are extraordinarily fortunate, because it is an excellent school. You CAN'T get the same quality of education at any school. Are there some? Of course, and there are some that are better. But please don't belittle the value of an SMU education. Any qualified student-athlete who chooses a bad academic school simply for football reasons is doing himself a lifelong disservice.

You are so right about that. I should have not said that at all and I am sorry. I do believe that our Players deserve to be culivated and Utilized.

Thanks for the post mom.
While I appreciate the and understand your sentiments, the statement that we would have one every game is simply outrageous.
You say we have one player that was offered by the Best 5 out of the Top 10 winning colleges. I don't dispute this (I think Vincent Chase was that highly recruited), but I submit that Texas Tech probably has at least a dozen or more kids on their roster that received the same calibre of offers. With our current talent, we lose that game 9 outta 10.
Until we find someone, anyone who can catch (or tackle) Houston's Alridge, we're probably not going to win that one either.
All the other games were winnable IMHO, especially UTEP and UNT which we let slip away for any number of reasons.
Also, while I agree that cultivating talent may not be the strength of this coaching staff, loyalty and motivation is. Most of these kid's would run through a brick wall for Bennett, so don't judge Willis' comments too harshly.

This education thing is a little overrated. The kids who are really concerned about their education are going to the Ivy Leagues. Sure, SMU can use the education argument when a kid is choosing between N. Texas, La. Tech, UTEP, Houston, but what many fail to realize is you have to be pretty equal in football for a kid to be persuaded by the education argument. However, other coaches use SMU's harder academic requirements as a negative towards us, especially kids that are borderline qualifiers. Those kids are simply scarred off by SMU's education talk. The bottom line is you better be able to sell football to consisently recruit. How effective is Bennett's rah rah talk when he is making it for the fifth, sixth, seventh time in a row without a winning season and bowl game. Changes have to be made now or risk losing more fans including me. If Bennett stay then it means one of three things 1) The money was not made available by the Pres. and Board of Trustees or Big Boosters to buy Bennett out and/or 2) the money was not available to hire a big name coach (which should have been done five years ago) and/or 3) a certain big name coach or coaches were not interested in this mess.

Again, if we have to rely on a fan message board to help recruiting, that is a sure sign of a coach not doing his job properly.

When I say Football is another thing. It is. Then why are they recuiting kids to play the game? I am saying, When some of the players have so passion for playing Football, work hard to develop better skills. They love the game so much that they want a life time Career. Whether its NFL or Coaching. They want to be the best. Yes, Education is very important to them for that will be their tools for life.
