The way I see it...
Todd Dodge has amassed an incredible record at Southlake and gained national spotlight for his success. Taking the coaching job at North Texas is the best possible move he could of made.
Reasons:
His name and offense are unquestionably well-known and respected not only throughout the metroplex but all of Texas and the nation. And what has a done with a bunch of white boys from Southlake will be continued at North Texas because I can imagine every receiver will want to take part in is spread offense and rack up the yards and catches. I'm not saying he doesn't have athletes at Southlake, but he has a broader selection of top quality athletes at his fingers especially in Dallas.
Second, after he takes North Texas to success, in five years he will be landing a big job in the Big XII, possibly Texas, as Mack Brown's successor.
While to some players and their families education is a top priority, it isn't the case for all, and a lot of athletes, mostly the great ones, don't have stellar marks in the classroom, this benefits Dodge in stealing players from SMU's recuriting class, as admission standards at North Texas are considerably lower than at SMU.
He will be able to get those athletes we want but can't get into school. And that my friends will make the difference as North Texas becomes dominant in Texas.

He turns out to b e a disaster, a College Head coaching job requires a much different skill set then High School. I am from California but all I know about this school is that they were busted for illegally using steroids, so if your a parent who wants your kid associated with someone with that litte institutional control in high school, run over to north texas teachers college and sign up

NTSU will always bring up the rear in texas college football, enjoy your win this year you are going to pay next year

How could you tell if he was a disaster at NTSU?

They made a good choice, and really have nowhere to go but up. They needed new blood and he'll fit the bill.

The way I see it is a win/win for SMU. If Dodge is a bust, nothing changes other than maybe we will beat them in the future. If he is successful it will draw attention to better football overall in the Metroplex. It will increase competition for the local players and give them more opportunities to stay nearby to play football. Then comes the hard part which actually should be easy. Sell SMU vs. NTSU. If we can not outrecruit these guys then we have a real problem beyond Todd Dodge. I would like to see TCU/SMU/NTSU fighting over the local guys rather than them just packing up and leaving for elsewhere. And yes, I realize we have been competing with TCU for a while and not been successful recently, but I do not blame that on Patterson, but rather on SMU itself. We can not sit around and hope that everyone in Texas hires bad, go nowhere coaches so we can be successful. We need to out work, out recruit, out coach and out play the competition. We have not been doing this and we need to work harder at getting there. I welcome any and all "great coaches" from high school, college, pro,etc. to come to the mertoplex and provide competition. If we can not compete with those we have, then let's get some who can. But why cry about another school's hire. Just beat them and move on.
