I'm just saying that the location isn't all that accessible to SMU's core audience, most of whom I bet live within a 10-mile radius of campus. Maybe even a five-mile radius. Even with the loft craze, there aren't that many people that live downtown - or who circulate there - compared to other entertainment areas of the city. Yeah, I know SMU needs to reach out to Dallas, but for a start-up show you want to do everything you can to ensure it's a success.

It's not about being able to afford a few bucks to park, it's the inconvenience. It gives people one more reason to say, "Naah, I don't think I'll go tonight." Little things like that can really make a difference.

Maybe I'm not as hip to the downtown scene as I should be, but I gotta think a location on Greenville or in Addison would get a lot more traffic.

When you have to pass out fliers at the basketball game explaining where Ten is and what the parking situation is, I don't think it's a place "most people" have heard of.

Yes, you can always listen on the radio rather than attend, but I'm sure they want an enthusiastic crowd there. Besides, this is the chance for SMU to reach out to Dallas. From its website, this place seems to cater to the pro athlete crowd. Not sure that's the best location for a college coach's show, but I hope it works out.

You my friend are a dipsh*t. Downtown IS within a 10 mile radius of campus. In fact its 5 miles from my old fraternity house at SMU to TEN's front door. It is much closer to SMU's campus than Addison which is certainly farther than 10 miles. Also being downtown you have a degree of prestige, many SMU alums working in the area that might decide to pop in, and a more familiar and closer area for students if they so should decide to go (which I agree is not there target for this show I am guessing). And Greenville is closer, by 2 miles, but is not nearly as nice of a venue or area while having some major parking issues of its own.

dude they probably handed out fliers because Ten moved locations and they don't a bunch of people showing up to Synder Plaza.

Read my post again, you big meanie name-caller. I realize downtown is within a 10-mile radius, but I said not that many people live there or circulate there compared to other areas. Sheesh.

OK, replace "Addison" with "Uptown" or "West Village" or whatever you want. Like I said, I'm not hip to the new downtown scene. Maybe it's THE new hotspot, but it's not my first inclination to go grab a beer downtown unless I'm leaving a Mavs game.

I've never been to Ten. But I've stumbled out of a lot of sports bars around Dallas and never had to worry about parking.

Like I said, I hope it all works out. The location just sounded kind of odd.

We'll just have to see how it goes. I would say Humperdinks would be good or Ozona - I think it should be closer to campus. People at SMU and most Dallasites are about convenience.

Ok people. No need to name call. I swear we eat our young around here.

I must admit that having to pay for downtown parking kind of turned me off, but otherwise, I think the location is fine. TONS of SMU alums work in the downtown area and a happy hour downtown is not a bad idea. I'll be there tonight.

One of the things we have to do is increase SMU's exposure to people who aren't constantly at the already established SMU hangouts -- Ozona, Humperdink's, etc. I suspect because of buzz and the frequency with with Dirk and Nash used to hang out at Ten, there may be a crowd who haven't thought about SMU basketball but will as a result of the show. I don't think they're expecting 100s of people at this thing, but hopefully it can grow over time.
