Other than the rumor about his daughter living somewhere near Tulsa, I don't know why he would want to leave Rice after the great job he did last year. I mean, you would think the guy would want to stick around a few more years to further what he started.

really weird move, i'd wanna cling to that wide receiver's eligibility for as long as i could, then i'd get the hell outta rice. i guess he wanted to go back to where he was an assistant and guide that program himself

I just hope Rice kicks their [deleted] next year along with everybody else in the conference. That said, the fact is Coach Graham is just dreaming of rocketing down the same road that Florida's Urban Meyer has done. From Ohio State assistant to Head Coach at Bowling Green, Utah, and then a BCS National Championship at Florida all within this decade......I don't think he is in Coach Meyer's class but he does............we'll see.

I think it's funny. After one year of mediocrity (hey, it's better than pure suck) Rice goes back to having poop for football because Applewhite will probably leave too. I really don't think there are many assistants that could make the HC jump after one year. Even if they "masterminded" rice to a boel game [over us].

I bet rice will offer the job to the Major but hell turn it down for more $$$ to be an assistant at Bama.
HAHA, RICE is screwed again.

he is leaving I'm sure because of admission standards-nothing else makes much sense. Long term he probably made the right decision.

Most Rice fans want to offer Major the job.

This is why I had said I thought maybe we should try for him if Coach Bennett had been let go. I think we could have persuaded him also although it might have been a harder sell with our own admission problems.

I feel for Rice. The good news is that Graham may have tarnished his reputation with Texas High School coaches a bit and given Rice and SMU some ammo to put seeds of doubt into the minds of future Tulsa recruits.

or maybe because has family in Tulsa or because Tulsa is currently renovating the stadium or because of more money or because Tulsa is consistantly winning. I could almost promise you the reason he is leaving has nothing to do with admissions standards. Tulsa is no UTEP or Fresno when it comes to admissions, they are a private school.

Growing up going to rice games and being a fan of the ponies, I feel for rice. Could you imagine having the season they had last year, going to a bowl, and then thinking Todd and Major were going to save your program, then WHAMO....they are gone....

Is that game in Tulsa or Houston? I hope the Rice fans turn out en masse to give him a salute that vaguely resembles the ol' "you're No. 1!"
Seriously, one year and out? It would make sense if a bigtime school came calling with a Brinks truck full of cash, but Tulsa? That donor's pledge means nada -- you can re-paint a re-built Yugo (Skelly Stadium), but it's still virtually worthless.

Hope is a dangerous thing for an Owl fan. Fortunately for us Pony fans we have no hope for our football program, therefore we won't fall short of our non existant goals. Now the hoops team, theres some hope!

Speak for yourself. I have plenty of hope for the football program, too, and have faith it will get done.

Be prepared for PB to leave as soon as he has a mildly successful season at SMU. Despite the patience and loyalty we've shown him, I'm sure he will bolt as soon as he gets another opportunity elsewhere.
