Carroll LB commits to UNT

You better get used to that subject title. Padrano committed to UNT. I watched this kid play this year and he is another Chris Bordano.

You mean he's another guy who's too skinny and too slow and barely recruited and has a chance to become a star only if he has the genetics to pack on a ton more weight and the inner fire to outwork everyone around him? Hmmmm .... good luck to him.

I've read a couple of articles that said SMU (and TCU) only offered a chance to walk-on.

I will take an occasional qb, and maybe a OL every other year out of carroll - but a pipeline from there is not a ticket to anywhere we want to go.

The kid is a 2 year starter on a team that never lost. I have watched him play and he was all over the field. He is not tall enough for the Big 12 but he will be a good player in UNT Conference.
As far as if he will be a stud we will see. I would love to have 6-4 235lbs LB's who are 4 star but you can wish in one hand and poop in the other..............

a pipeline to the school thats only won 10 texas state titles in a row with 5-6 D1 players graduating a year is not something you want? Would you be happier if we got all our players from hickville 2A?

5-6 D-1 players a year? one or two tops - and always qb or OL. We need speed - and we aint gonna get it from the dragons.

Here's what Rivals has:

2006-9 Division 1A signees
2005-2
2004-3
2003-1

You might be surprised how many were Big 12 signees too. Next year they have Riley Dodge and Tre Newton already ranked in the Top 50 in Texas.

From Denton Record Chronicle;
Football

Trio from Lufkin to visit UNT

One of the top wide receiver prospects in the country will make a recruiting visit to North Texas.

Dez Bryant of Lufkin will be in Denton beginning Jan. 26 along with teammates Ralph Thomas and A.J. Penson. Thomas plays cornerback while Penson is an inside linebacker.

Lufkin coach John Outlaw confirmed on Tuesday that all three are being recruited by UNT and are scheduled to visit the school.

Rivals.com ranks Bryant as a four-star recruit and the ninth-best receiver prospect in the country. He is being recruited by LSU, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech Oklahoma and Texas A&M, among others.

Bryant (6-1, 195) caught 67 passes for 1,270 yards and six touchdowns last season.

Thomas and Penson are both listed as two-star recruits by Rivals.com.

Penson is being recruited by Texas A&M, UTEP and Houston, among others. Rice is recruiting Thomas

The concern I have with that article is not so much with getting outrecruited for quality players but that at least 2 of those recruits are reputed academic risks. If NTSU becomes the warehouse for academic risks they could pose a big threat to SMU in the future as Dodge builds his program. I hope we don't have the next Fresno St. on our doorsteps. There are some other academic risks looking at NTSU also like Gilmer 3 star LB Dominique Buchanan who decommitted from Baylor. According to him he has visits to Michigan and North Texas-yeah right. He's an academic risk who might end in Denton because he has very few quality options. This is what NTSU has done in the past with guys like Jonas Buckles and booger Kennedy the kid who was not admitted to SMU.

Well, what is the situation in Denton? As long as your not serving time, and can drag your knuckles off the ground, you can get in school? So how LOW are NTS's academic requirements?

Serving time is not a problem for UNT. They'll give you a degree through correspondence courses.

It really does. To this day, I still have people ask me........"SMU lost to NTS???????" I answer " yes, it was the most embarrassing loss ever" Then in shame, I walk away amidst all of the laughter. The good thing is, I think you'll have the 'Stangs attention at Ford next year.
