Nathan [deleted] Decommits from Rice

Postby Stallion » Mon Jan 15, 2007 6:39 pm

no mention of SMU though

Allen QB is back on the market
Allen QB Nathan [deleted] confirmed today that he is looking around and does not consider himself committed to Rice after head coach Todd Graham and offensive coordinator Major Applewhite both left the school in the last several days.

[deleted], who had meetings set up with Arkansas and Houston for today, has talked to Rice coaches since Graham and Applewhite left, but for now, he wants to weigh his options.

"I'm OK with it," [deleted] said. "I wanted to go to Rice, but everybody has left."

[deleted] is speaking of course of Graham, the former Allen coach who made what looks like a lateral move by going to Tulsa last week.

And [deleted] is speaking of Applewhite, who continued his meteoric rise by taking an assistant's position at Alabama under new coach Nick Saban. Applewhite had been recruiting [deleted] at Rice and attended at least of one of Allen's playoff games when the Eagles defeated Spring Westfield in dramatic fashion in overtime.

[deleted] said hasn't talked to Alabama or Applewhite since the former Texas quarterback left Rice. [deleted] did send a text message to Applewhite, but he has not heard back from him yet.

[deleted] said he will not follow Graham to Tulsa because the Golden Hurricane has a stockpile of quarterbacks.

It would be interesting to see if [deleted] ends up with the Razorbacks, where his brother Casey has been involved in a revolving door situation at quarterback with Arkansas schoolboy legend Mitch Mustain.

Late in the season Mustain's mother, Beck Campbell, and other Springfield parents complained to Arkansas athletic director Frank Broyles about Houston Nutt's offensive scheme, which instead of the no-huddle was devised to take advantage of what might be the best two running backs in college football, Darren McFadden and Felix Jones.

But alas, Mustain might leave Arkansas after offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn, Mustain's high school coach, bolted for Tulsa on Monday to join -- you guessed -- apparent long lost friend Graham.

Will this soap opera ever end?

I think he will go to Arkansas and wait for Mustain to leave.

I think SMU only wanted one quarterback this year, they probably will make an exception if they can get Nathan [deleted], but you never know. It doesn't sound like he's too interested in us anyway

BTW Rice looks like it will take some hits on losing Graham in addition to their losing their [deleted]. According to a report on the Rice board that heralded JUCO OLM from Mississippi lasted two days after Graham left. Wonder if he's availiable? Also Cameron Thompson a DT from Cedar Hill's State Championship decommitted and Tulsa is making a last minute attempt at all those Cedar Hill kids. I think Joey McGuire their coach is a close friend of Graham because Graham has always got some nice recruits from Cedar Hill.

Had the JUCO already signed and if so what is the deal with eligibility with that? And did Rice jerk the school out from under him or did he just get mad and leave?

Talked to the wife of a new Tulsa Assistant last night that I know. She is claiming that Nathan and Charlie O are wide open right now. Not sure if she is in the loop but her claim is that Tulsa is desperate to keep Charlie. Apparently, Louisville is making a big push as well. I would much rather push for Charlie than Nathan but both are great pickups. Nathan's dad has expressed interest in SMU before but was concerned about PB's longevity here.

How does he feel about Graham's desire to remain in Tulsa for more than a year or 2.

Question for those of you that have witnessed the performances. How does Nathan compare to Casey? Casey seems to be in a postion to mature into a good SEC QB. Is Nathan as good? Better? Slower? Faster? Bigger? Smaller? And please answer before we start into the does the size of the [deleted] matter jokes.

I thought Nathan was a better QB with a stronger arm when he was a sophmore and Casey was a Sr. in Allen. Also, I am pretty sure that Nathan's dad may rethink the whole Todd Graham thing because he does appear to be a real mercenary and Mustain will be in Tulsa. Don't think that would go over well with MM and family. They probably don't need to be [deleted]'d out of a job in Tulsa either. My guess is that Nathan looks long and hard at SMU, Arkansas, and Houston.

My opinion on Nathan is that he is a real gun slinger in the spread. He ain't real quick but he will grow into a 6'3-4" 230 pound QB that reads defenses well and will beat you with his arm while standing in the pocket.
Also, he is someone that will push JW and would be a huge upgrade at our 2nd string QB.

What we really need is another RB. Charlie O may be in play as well and I would think that Gannaway should be available as well. We need a quality RB to spell/push Martin.

Good/Better? - I think he has the potential to be better than his brother. Nathan's Sr. year at Allen was better than Casey's.

Speed? - Above avg. with good moves. When he does decide to tuck and run or a QB draw is called, he makes things happen. After Charlie O got hurt, [deleted] stepped up and proved himself as a threat when he left the pocket.

Size? - I agree with BrianT that he will bulk up to 230 or so and be a powerful presence in and out of the pocket.

I think it would be great to have Nathan at SMU. He would be the perfect backup and successor to JW.

And a little QB controversy could be fun with the sorority girls yelling, "We want [deleted]! We want [deleted]!"

No offense, but the sorority girls would have no idea that we have a player named [deleted], much less would they cheer for him...that is unless it is spring break and they are in mexico drunk off their asses. That of course would be the more generic [deleted] though.

I think we need the D & the O. That's nathan D. and Charles O.

C'mon guys, give SMU a real shot. Are you kidding? Talk about a wonderful opportunity. Hey, no better situation than having the Big D bring on the Big O.

Okay, Ponypride, you can bring this down now.

Heh heh.
