SMU Women Defeat Southern Miss on the Road! The SMU women picked up a HUGE road win on Sunday by defeating Southern Miss 69-65. It was an exciting game to listen to. Yet again, nice contributions from the Freshmen (Severin w/ 13, Gilliam w/ 3, Wills w/ 10, Samuels w/ 7). Katy Cobb leads all Mustangs with 18 points.....nice to see Cobb have a break-out game. Nice to have Shepherd back too - I think her defensive play was missed in the conference losses. Congrats ladies - nice win!
Tourney bid please!!!!!! I want one BAAAD
Sir, shooting-star, sir.
Frosh 2005 (TEN YEARS AGO!?!) The original Heavy Metal.
FANTASTIC WIN, Ponies! Well done!
Beating anyone on the road is a big job, but beating a conference opponent in their gym, where they're winning about 80 percent of their games -- that's just an outstanding job by our Ponies. Hats off to the coaches and players on a big, BIG win!
What a great win for the Ponies!
Make it four straight wins, with victories at Moody over East Carolina (Friday night) and Marshall (Sunday afternoon). Come on, PonyFans, there's no football Sunday -- come out and support women's basketball. GO MUSTANGS!
Tremendous job. But a big win is only big if followed by another, so go get ECU Friday, and run 'em off OUR floor.
I actually thought of making a road trip to see the Ponies play, but wouldn't have made it back in time for the Super Bowl, and my neighbor can be trusted around a tub full of beer and a grill with an open flame.
Considering the damn Colts won that "other" game, and the Ponies knocked off a strong Southern Miss team, I wish I'd made the trip! Go Ponies!
I don't know about a tournament bid this season, but this team is going to be stacked next year. Katy Cobb, Janelle Dodds and Sheree Shepard are back. I'd love to see Coach R get them to the tournament this year, and next year, I'm betting on it. I know, gambling is illegal at Bushwood .... and I never slice. Ponies are a year away from kicking some MAJOR butt.
Unfortunately, that is probably going to mean winning the conference tournament this year (which is not out of the question if everyone is healthy). Our early struggles in conference pretty much shut the door on an at large berth. This is a weak women's basketball conference, so don't expect anybody to get a n at large berth without a stellar record (5-6 losses max). UTEP and Tulane are probably the only ones with any shot this year. We are definietly still alive for WNIT consideration though if we can finish strong.
