Spring Game recap

Postby Throwback » Mon Apr 02, 2007 10:14 am

Mustang Maniacs has a pretty thorough synopsis of the Red-Blue game, with lots of side notes. It says there were about 900 people in attendance, and about 200 of them were recruits who came to watch the scrimmage.
There's also some other recruiting links on there (free) that identify some other high school kids interested in SMU after working out at other schools' junior days.

I'm old school, and can't help it.

Good stuff there, for those who didn't make it to Ford. Over there you can learn about "(backup quarterback) Zach Slater..."

WHO?

It also reports that "... running back DeMyron Martin. The junior has added about 10 pounds to his 6-2 frame..."

... even though Martin himself said on PonyFans that he has lost a few pounds through his increased strength/conditioning work.

They also touch on recruiting: "Five of the recruits on-hand came from Denton Ryan, the high school home of Willis and redshirt freshman Anthony Sowe. SMU also signed Ryan defensive lineman Ben Goldthorpe this spring, giving the Mustangs at least three Ryan Raiders on the 2007 roster, and apparently looking for more..."

Good note, except for the fact that Sowe went to Denton High, not Ryan.

nice note on Arlington Lamar. FYI - Kennmer will be a Sophmore not a junior. The SMU football website is mistaken. He redshirted his one season at A&M, sat our last year as required by NCAA rules at SMU. He's a soph.

Depends on when you did your counting. It was a pretty thin crowd when the game started, but in true SMU fashion, the crowd had filled in by the 2nd quarter. Definitely more than 900.

MustangManiacs.com wrote:The scrimmage rules prevented a full punt rush, and there were no coverage teams downfield on punting plays. But credit the SMU punters with a solid day. Not so for the punt returners. Junior punter Thomas Morstead averaged 47 yards on his five punts, and landed one of them inside the 20. Junior Andrew Galloway boomed eight punts for an average of 36 yards, with one inside the 20.

No mention of K Cunningham. Which is pretty funny.

WEBMASTER(s): One thing I REALLY liked (the only thing, actually) about the Rivals site, is the ability to quickly look at a players vitals by clicking their name. I suppose I could write this where one of you would read it though.
