lawschool pony - tailgating is free at Ole Miss as you said - however, reserved parking over 4 blocks away is $1000 per season - here reserved tailgating is $480 a season with adjacent parking free - tailgating on the Blvd without a reserved spot is free ( parking 1 block away at Meadows Museum $120 per season ) -

Personally, I like it.

Hi Derek! My name's Little Cletus and I'm here to tell you a few things about child labor laws, ok? They're silly and outdated. Why back in the 30s, children as young as five could work as they pleased; from textile factories to iron smelts. Yippee! Hurray!

I like it as well. Plus there is no Kathy Bates in a hot tub anywhere in the picture.

If there is anything that this horrible tragedy can teach us, it's that a male model's life is a precious, precious commodity. Just because we have chiseled abs and stunning features, it doesn't mean that we too can't not die in a freak gasoline fight accident.

There was a moment last night, when she was sandwiched between the two Finnish dwarves and the Maori tribesmen, where I thought, "Wow, I could really spend the rest of my life with this woman".

I disagree. Ole Miss has the #1 tailgating scene according to ESPN, and yet tailgating there is completely free, and packed every game (just like their stadium - which is twice the size of Ford).

So no, charging people to tailgate, and in general, just making tailgating as difficult as possible is not the way to being a "top 25 program."

Obviously, expony18 and d_pony have pointed out that Ole Miss does have some charges related to the Grove...but my question to you is: since when is Ole Miss a "top 25 program?" Last I knew, Ole Miss is a perennial 40-50 program that cracks the top 25 only for one or two weeks in years that they have a star player (Eli Manning, etc.).

The actual tailgating scene has NOTHING to do with whether or not a program is "top 25." It does not recruit players, and as evidenced by SMU, it does not put fans in the stands. However, it can be a money-maker. That is what the SMU athletic department is trying to do with this move. Do I think it was executed correctly? No - the correct way would have been to inform all season ticket holders that there would be a gradual increase in prices over the next few years

Yes, you CAN join the Grove Society and have parking reserved, but having a spot for a tent is COMPLETELY FREE - NO CHARGES. As for unloading, the Grove is open for unloading of tents, chairs, food, etc. each morning a set number of hours before gametime, UNLIKE the Blvd.

As for paying for parking, I went to 4 seasons of Ole Miss football games as a student (lived off campus for 3) and NEVER ONCE had to pay for parking, and had no problems finding parking either. Since going back as alumni, I have NEVER paid for parking at Ole Miss games, there is plenty of it, and my friends who set up tents pay NOTHING for their tailgating spaces.

I referred to Ole Miss as #1 for tailgating, not as a top 25 program overall. If we are talking about improving tailgating and general attendance at Blvd./games, then I think you should look to the top at tailgating for ideas/policies.

My friends set up their own tents - some of them go the night before during the first set-up time, and some of them set up the day of games.
