They could always do like West Virginia fans and light them on fire after every game (win or lose!)

[quote="Special_Delivery_Smu_Fans"]RE: "why doesn't SMU model their Blvd. policies after the best at the Grove?"

I was told that is exactly what SMU is doing.

A source told me that Orsini surveyed quite a few successful
tailgates (including Ole Miss) around the country before he
made these decisions and patterned the new SMU BLVD
policies after those programs.

Then why are these new policies nothing like those at Ole Miss??

Re: "you just can't drag a grill or a cooler out there and set it up any place you please..."

I didn't think people were doing that before. I thought the very south end of the Boulevard was an unclaimed space for tailgaters who either A) couldn't afford or didn't want a big-time set-up, or B) didn't want to be near the mosh pit further up the way.

There should always be an area for people to enjoy The Boulevard without paying an arm and a leg. Sure, charge for the primo spots and reserved parking, but if someone's willing to haul their own gear to the The Boulevard (and they follow the rules) it only adds to the festive atmosphere.

Banishing lower-end tailgaters to places like Doak Walker Plaza stratifies pre-game socializing. Instead of creating additional tailgate areas, SMU should be looking for ways to get MORE people on The Boulevard. It's one of the best selling points about SMU and it should be exposed to as many people as possible.

If EVERY inch of space on the actual Boulevard is only for people or groups that can afford a high rental fee, then the Boulevard becomes an exclusive club and not the street festival it was envisioned to be.

Please assure me that is a cooler and not a port-a-potty.

I posted that on the blog a year ago. And I still didn't get one for Christmas. And it only holds a case. And it comes in Red!

I haven't seen a response yet, but I still have a BIG PROBLEM w/ the fact that this new policy basically makes it impossible for people to come tailgate for one or two games a season.

In other words, out of towners who plan on making 2 games won't be able to tailgate b/c there is no area left for people who don't reserve for the entire season.

The question stands. Cooler or port-a-potty?

I've seen the Cruzin' Cooler used at NASCAR events.

If you really want to let SMU know how you feel, bring one of these to your next Boulevard tailgate:

mrydel wrote:FWIW, many schools have to adjust their tailgating policies. A couple of years ago Arkansas games in Little Rock, long known for their avid tailgating had to ban the burning of sofas in the tailgating area. I hope it does not come to that with us. :D

Too bad TX A$M didn't band the playing with matches and combustibles before a game until after people got killed. Give Arkansas credit, for once, for doing it right before some one decided to call it tradition and got people killed.
