You have to give NTS credit, that game was like a Super Bowl to them. Their team and their fans, were fired up beyond belief. SMU just thought they could sleep walk, and win. I hope Bennett and the team learned a lesson. The DMN even called it, (possibly the worst loss in SMU history). It was my most embarrassing for sure.

Well maybe its the general attitude exhibited by you and so many other Phonie fans. Referring to University of North Texas as NTSU or calling them JUCOers, or writing: " I mean to have to actually walk around that place and look at the buildings and their students? That's cruel and unusal punishment." .......Yeah I can't see ANY reason why would have ill feelings toward you :?

I don't appreciate being called a "Phonie" fan. I support and love my school, and I despise North Texas and Texas Tech. I am entitled to my opinion, and I stand by it. Feel free to hate me, or us, or this school as much as you please. I think that Denton is an ugly, dirty city, I don't think highly of NTSU at all, and I hated the fans and the atmosphere. By all means, congradulations on pounding us 24-6, but I'm still entitled to my opinion and am not surprised in the least that you, or all of you, hate us. It's what makes college sports collegiate sports. The love and hatred of ones alma mater, and other schools.

So I guess you are a living answer to your original question. And you are right that all are entitled to their own opinion, that's why most everyone outside of the Park Cities view SMU as a bunch of classless snobs. You have a beautiful campus and great stadium but it's always empty because nobody in Dallas feels welcome there. I've met some great SMU fans, Very cordial and respectful. However perception is reality and your opinions seem to be shared by many fans of the phonies. Is it any wonder with opinions such as yours that Dallas doesn't embrace the Phonies???

So I ask you... why the hate for North Texas??? Why do you despise them? What did they do to you? Other than 24-6

See, that's why it's tough to like anybody from North Texas. They see what the want to see. I don't like NTSU, I must be a snob. I must be from highland park. I must be the walking embodiment of the SMU stereotype. Not enough people go to our games. It must be because we're snobs. It must be because we don't make them feel welcome. NTSU is still in the Sun Belt. It must be because SMU has wronged them and snubbed their nose at them for the last half century.

No, it looks like you answered your own question. Your being naive and ignorant in making those statements. I am not from highland park. I do happen to agree that there are a certain number of people who embody the somewhat unfriendly upper class SMU stereotype. Our stadiums half full because we have been a losing program in a city that has the Mavericks, Cowboys, Rangers, and Stars. People don't come to our games because we treated the last decade like a Division III school.

It's a shame you see things that way because there are good people here, there are good fans here, and there is a better product on the fild. And I hate NTSU because it's a sub par academic school, in a sub par part of the state of Texas, with sub par athletics. It has nothing to do with white collar, blue collar, no collar.

LOL, with every word you type you prove my point more and more.

For the record, I never assumed you were from Highland Park. My reference to the Park Cities was due to SMU's location. SMU and the your self admitted snobbish fan base turns off the rest of DFW. So people see what the want to see huh, and you say they should feel welcome when you display such disdain and elitist attitudes? Some of the Phonies fans on the hilltop embrace that elitist attitude, snobbish behavior, and SMU stereotype. I've seen it demonstrated on this board, I’ve seen it on the 'Vard, I’ve seen it in the stadium...and I’m not the first to say it here. SMU'ers have posted the same before. You just despise North Texas because they are sub-par ...you are just saying you hate them because you are better than they are. SMU is a great institution. If only some of its fans were as classy as the school aspires to be. You are not a snob, and Brutus is an honorable man.

If UNT is so sub-par why do you hate them? Why do you even feel anything? The opposite of fear is indifference. You self admittedly despise and hate North Texas, that certainly isn’t indifference. You must really fear them. And if they are so sub-par athletically how do you describe 24-6????

Anyway this joust has been fun... It won't be here by morning because the mods will delete any negative posts.

It was never a real possibility and we didn't need to make a case either way. Tulsa, Rice and UTEP were better options for CUSA, along with us.

Actually what Turner was doing was openly campaigning for then WAC-mate La Tech. Turner had been quoted in the DMN regarding his preference for La Tech over UNT to join them in CUSA. In the end you were right. It was much ado about nothing as Turner's influence was moot and CUSA invited UTEP for the last spot.

I can promise this thread will make it to the Eagle web site. This will make their week, that we're talking about them. 99.9% of Pony fans don't dislike NTS, we just DON'T care.

I guess thats why when ever something happens at North Texas the Phonie fans are always talking about it here LOL. Hell, when Todd Dodge was hired you talked about it on here almost as much as the Mean Green. Yall are obsessed with the bigger public school up north. You guys really need to get some help to get over your infeiority complex to UNT

BTW refresh my memory...who started this thread...Oh yeah A FAN OF THE PHONIES. Another example of an Mean Green obsessed SMU fan.

Why would you not pull for your conference mate? And why could NTSU not make it on its own merits?

If your point is that SMU alienates the DFW metroplex with its "elitist" attitude, thus causing our stadium to rarely fill to capacity, what is your excuse for your's? I believe when you played us last year was the highest attendance in your stadium's history and it still wasn't full.

You are going to find snobby people everywhere. People that are so full of themselves that it is disgusting. It unfair to all of the alumni and students to look at our campus's location, the price of tuition, the kind of cars that are around campus, how people look, or even worse how a handful of people act, to determine the personalities of all of those affiliated.

Regardless, quit force-feeding yourself stereotypes about our so-called "elitism", twisting the facts and quotes, and then using that to pump your low self-esteem. It only makes you a whiny, self-diluting crybaby trying to steal attention away from other schools. When you can't do that successfully, you become envious and disdainful.

The College and University of North Texas went bowling with a losing record or close to it. Brag about that bowl appearance. Good for you. You deserved it. You won the Sun Belt Conference championship. And then fired the coach who got you that championship and took you bowling. Great move there. The College and University of North Texas really means nothing to me. It is a non-entity in sports as far as I'm concerned and belongs in the conference that its in, the Sun Belt. And in fact I heard they were offered a spot in the WAC and turned it down after being turned down for the spot in CUSA which went to UTEP. Guess that conference was too hard for it. And UTEP has a history with some of the CUSA schools. It has a National Championship in basketball. SMU has national championships in football, track, and golf. Rice has a national championship in baseball. Tulsa has been to the elite 8 several times in basketball. These are schools that have made an impact nationally. The College and University of North Texas hasn't. Nuf said. Out.

I think we gained quite a bit from that loss. It showed the alumns, students and hopefully the board, just how artificial our return to football has really been. I just wish the loss had occured 18 years ago. Going to "any bowl" is truely an artificial or hollow win.
Except for the top 8-10 bowls it just means that the team is somewhere between the top 40-75 teams in the country. Not much of an accomplishment.
Does it even indicate we could beat a single BCS team?
