Mustang Women's Hoops Adds Late Signee to the 2007-08 Roster
Brittani Allen Comes to SMU Via Northeastern Oklahoma A&M
May 4, 2007
DALLAS (SMU) - Brittani Allen (Glenpool, Okla.) has signed a national letter-of-intent to attend SMU and will begin play with the SMU women's basketball team this fall, SMU head coach Rhonda Rompola announced. Allen is one of three newcomers to the Mustang roster for the 2007-08 season, which includes Haley Day and LaShandra Hill.
Allen, a 5-8 shooting guard, attended Northeastern Oklahoma A&M in Miami, Okla., the last two years. She averaged 9.0 points and 3.0 rebounds per game. A three-point specialist, Allen hit 70 three-pointers last season and posts a three-point field goal percentage of 39%. Allen was a member of the 2006-07 Lady Norse team that recorded a 25-7 mark and finished 11th at the 2007 NJCAA National Tournament under the direction of head coach Jim Rowland. Prior to Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, Allen attended Glenpool High School.

Whats an average 3-pt percentage? If 39% qualifies as a specialist...

39% would have been second best on our team this year for players with more than 2 attempts.
39% would also have been in the top 25 nationally if she met the attempts requirement. Average is usually around 30-33% I think.

From what I've heard about this kid, every team they play know she's going to shoot 3s, and they gear their defense around her. Supposedly she can really fill it. Don't know if this is true, but I was told she even hit 10 3s IN A SINGLE HALF of one game. Sounds to me like Coach Rompola has a bomber heading our way. Don't know about the rest of her game, but it sure sounds like she can drain 'em.

10 3-pointers in one half?
If that's true, this would be a huge addition. This season, teams played a lot of zone and dared the Ponies to hit 3s. If Cobb and Samuels weren't hitting, then Dodds got beaten up inside as the other team's zone defense collapsed around her. It will get better this year with Gross back to stick some 3s, but this JUCO might turn out to be a great boost to the offense.
Congratulations, coaches!

If she hit 10 in one half, that means she hit 60 in the remaining 31 games which is under 2/game. That means she shoots 5 or 6 and hits 2 for 6 points a game if that is maintained. No disrepect to her whatsoever, but that just does not seem impressive to me from a 3 point standpoint. What am I missing?

I don't know how many games her team played, or the validity of the story about 10 three-pointers in a half. I have talked to people who have seen her play, however, and have been told that she is an extraordinary shooter. That 39 percent came with intense defensive coverage in many cases, and she often shot well behind the three-point line in an effort to get a little breathing room.

Their record was 25-7 so that is what I based the number of games on. Again, I am not being disrespectful in any way and I am a Rhonda supporter. I just do not see the numbers panning out to the hype.
I will just pretend that she was hurt and only played in 7 games and averaged 10 3's a game.
If she is what she is advertised, can we use her on the men's team as well?
