BLVD is sold outModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower Well, the fact that the BLVD is sold out does not spell doom. Of the 70 spots on the BLVD (southern end), only 4 of the people that had spots did not renew, and 2 of those were people who had 2 spots and reduced down to one. Antoher was for someone who moved out of town. Only one regular tailgater actually gave up their spot.
That means there were only 4 spots to sell to a waiting list. And I do think that given the price of the BLVD, people who purchase the spots are going to be more, not less, likely to actually use them. So the BLVD is going to be the same as it has been, if not better, given that we're going to have a good year with some national buzz.
So someone clarify for me the new rules. If I drag my rolling cooler full of libations to the Blvd on game day, can I still park it under a tree and enjoy the sights without having a "spot"? Or, do the new rules preclude this?
I cannot imagine that the new guidelines prohibit such activity.
Good question, that is what I do, and the best part was watching all the people walk back and forth, surely that will not change. I donate what I can to the Mustang Club and have season tickets, but never bothered getting a spot on the blvd. because me and a friend or two would just show up a couple of hours early with a 12 pack and walks a little and stands a little until game time taking in the sights. Blog is right. With the new rules and the new costs, spots will be officially delineated to prevent encroachment from "squatters", and there will be a path down the center reserved for traffic. So the technical answer is that if you don't buy a spot, you don't get a spot, at least not on the Southern end. That said, depending on who you park your cooler by, and how friendly they are (or how much they show up), you might be able to stay, but I wouldn't bank on it.
I beg to differ. Other than the Apples, who I hope were able to snag one of the 4 spots, who else was setting up an actual tailgate on the Southern end that didn't have a spot? I don't think this is shutting down a huge number of people or "ruining" anything.
If it was just a couple people and a cooler, I bet that if you agree to bring a cooler full of beer, and you add to the fun atmosphere, I bet you'll find several groups willing to welcome new additions to their group.
A LOT OF PEOPLE WERE. And several of those people are on this board. Some are in this thread.
I had two spots on the Blvd and gave up one. I am happy to host any "squatters" at my tent.
"It'd be nice to see Jesse Henderson break one here."
Actually, I had a friend who paid for and got a spot on the 'vard right behind the sign facing Mockingbird last year for two games and invested in an awning and tables and everything and she'll be shut out of using that area of the 'vard this year. And I think the ruin potential is obvious-if the same number of high dollar blue hairs who purchase season tickets and don't use them purchase these boulevard spots because some buddy of their's asked them to, and then they don't use them any more than they use their tickets, then the whole atmosphere on the south end will be ruined.
thinking of all the activity at homecoming, how far north do you have to go to not be south? Can you get to a point north where every-once-in-a-whiles can tailgate?
Look, they didn't take any spots from anyone to give to bluehairs. All of us that were already there except for 2 (out of 70) groups are still there. My group has 2 spots, and I'm blond as ever, and never use a bottle.
So even if you could assume that the 4 empty spots (including PonySoprano's extra) went to bluehairs --- which I think would be an incorrect assumption --- it's not a big enough impact. Besides which, I will say it again, I think the price increase will make it more likely, not less, that the people who purchase spots will use them more frequently for longer. Bluehairs can purchase a parking spot right up against the frickin' stadium for less if they want -- and that is not only where they prefer to park to avoid the walk to the stadium, it is where the staff suggests they buy a pass rather than on the BLVD. For those of you who really are looking for a tailgate home, make some new friends. I know BUS, the Special Delivery guys, PonySoprano, my group and many more are always quick to offer food and beverage to passers by so probably would not be averse to new members of the tailgate. But maybe some of you don't commune with sunshiners like us?
So any chance I could stop by and visit folks? I always ride over with with my wife or an attorney buddy from Longview, and my boys like the idea of playing on the Blvd. They don't drink beer, but they laugh at people who drink too much!
![]() I met BUS & PonyPride that way last year, and I saw a buddy I hadn't seen in 10 years (Taylor Bowen, if you are on this board, you are good man!). Would love to do it again! "Moderation in all things, and especially in Absoluts [vodka]." The Benediction, Doc Breeden, circa 1992
So what is the availability on spots on the north end or by Dallas Hall? I have not partied in those areas as much as the south end since my kids can't play catch where the fraternities set up, and Dallas Hall always seemed out of the way.
I'll take you up on that. I don't need food or beer, and will even bring enough of each for you. In exchange I only want a place to park my cooler. And as to the sunshine, if it gets too bright I'll put on my shades and bring a high spf lotion.
