Summer WorkoutsAnybody seen them working out this summer? # in attendance? Any notable absences? Any incoming Frosh? Comments on the intensity of the workouts.
Stallion would not endorse these workouts unless they were supervised and documented by Rivals.

Re: Summer Workouts
Most hardcore athletes will work out over the summer; for instance, our defense works out every week day throughout the off-season. I'm sure it's something similar at SMU. No decent athlete is going to let his body decay over the off-season.
I have been helping out in the weightroom this summer and have been extremely pleased with what I see. The vast majority of the kids are busting their tails while Vic has them on a top notch program. I've been affiliated with this program for 13 years now and it is by far the best effort I have ever seen. If they can transition this from the weightroom to the field, I think we can expect an enjoyable year.
Thanks to Vic and his staff for allowing me to learn from them making me a better high school coach. SMU has without a doubt improved themselves by bringing Vic in. I couldn't be more pleased with the direction they are headed.
Me too. GO MUSTANGS!
FIGHT ON!
Example: Right now SMU has at least one scout team DT that can bench press over 500lbs. When you have a lot stronger and faster team overall, it sure helps develope a better football program. Coach Viloria is going to get it done.
I keep reading about how big and strong our team is and that that is such a great thing.
Here is the problem...Miami hasn't had a player bench 500 lbs since 2001. In fact only 3 put up over 400lbs and one is a freshman (LB no less!). SO the overall question is do we really think that a bunch of players throwing up 500lbs is goign to help us win games?
------ A new OC should have been introduced the day after that play calling debacle. Running outta the shotgun from Rice's 1 yd line- it still hurts to remember.
Commits From MustangManiacs.Com article "Future Mustangs Shine in Oil Bowl" SMU Strength and Conditioning Coach Vic Villoria has already begun work with the incoming Freshmen......Quote OL Kelly Turner "We're lifting alot and I love what Vic is doing for all of us. I'm showing improvement already. "........Quote OL Josh LeRibeus " Vic's killing us but getting results already. I haven't felt this good at the start of a season. I know I'm in better playing shape prior to last year.".........Quote from Maniac's Writer Scott Farrell " How many athletes usually say that about their strength Coaches ? We already heard about Villoria's impact with the current team. He's now expanded that to making a great first impression on the recruits as well."

Being able to bench press 500 lbs. doesn't amount to a chicken [deleted]'s difference if you can't play.

Now, lets just assume for arguments sake that a player CAN play. What are the pros and cons of packing on muscle? Are we going to see a drop off in endurance as the price for increased strength? Will there be greater potential for injury as a result of the increased workload? I mean, all things being equal, I'll take the same player benching 400 pounds over that player who can only bench 325 or whatever, so what I want to know is: What aspects aren't equal? What is the price to be paid for this increase. We can't really evaluate question without knowing that. And whether the players can play or not is irrelevant, since that's not going to change regardless of what the off season workouts are like. -CoS
Maybe we can convince the other team to do a powerlifting meet instead of a football game.

Good point, I can now see how being stronger will make these guys worse players. -CoS
