Kinda like we experienced in our first few years in the WAC and CUSA?

Do you consider CUSA and WAC big conferences?

No, but we got "rolled the first few years" in each of those too, and we never got better and never got attendance up and never got players that would made any difference. So, again, why would it work in "big conferences"?

Play larger state schools, attendance goes up...not necessarily more fans, but larger attendance...and attendance was the word used. Always loved those large crowds we got playing Fresno.

Uh, OK, PK. I coulda sworn they were talking about increased attendance of folks there to see SMU, but I could be wrong.

I'd contend coaching has a large part to do with managing a transition like that and improving the program overall, but that is another discussion for another time.

The Aggies have been winking at the SEC for some time now, just as UT has been winking at the PAC-10 for some bizarre reason. There are so many permutations in all of this. If for example, a playoff becomes inevitable, then schools like Texas might decide that they want a more watered down conference to compete in. Suddenly the old SWC looks a whole lot better because UT would be looking at a virtual straight shot to the playoffs. Just as the ripple effects of the ACC raid on the Big East created an opportunity for SMU, my feeling is that a similar ripple effect from any B 10 raid would in the long run have a chance to be a positive for us as well. It could also be a negative if TCU moved up to a BCS conference and we didn't.

Was said on College football live that the leading canidates to move into the BT are Colorado, Iowa State, Pitt, Rutgers, and the Cuse. Those are the teams the BT commish woild like to add but ND is top of the list but he knows that its unlikely that they would join the BT.

Big Ten Network

Postby Charlie NT73 » Fri Jul 27, 2007 3:06 pm

Big Ten Network, starts up in the fall. This whole TV deal sounds like the
B10 is raiding the other sports networks like ESPN, for their market share
of the TV sports $$$. Follow the $$$ trail and the market area values, then
the conference raiding will begin again.
If you are a high ranking B10 TV cheif-which TV market area has the best
value? Quote, "the broader (the network) is distributed, the more VALUE
(expansion) has" , and "more exposure for the network and its SPONSORS". It is all about sports TV market share which equals $$$.
Does Missouri drive more $$$ than New Jersey? What is the DFW area TV value vs Oklahoma City, in TV revenues/market share?
How long will it take for the B12 honchos to figure out they can create
their "own" TV sports network also, and get in on the action? How about the Pac 10, or the ACC? Everybody will be chasing the $$$!
With NT, SMU, and TCU right here in a high $$$ TV market, all of us just may be in the right place at the right time!

Don't hold your breath. NTSU will be blackballed as always. Besides, you just posted the other day how happy you were to be in the ShunnedBelt.

There is a reason Rutgers and 'Cuse were mentioned, and that is unlike any of the other schools mentioned, they would bring new TV sets (unlike, e.g., Iowa State) *and* their current conference is shaky (unlike, e.g., Iowa State or Missouri).

I, for one, hope the Big Televen keeps pining after ND, because if they raid I fear they will go after the Big East, and then the Big East will re-load with the school that thinks they should've gone along to the Big East already, and that CUSA can ill afford to lose: Memphis.

Forgot about Pitt. That would give Penn state a traveling pair and balance the league.

Syracuse give BT the NY market

No freakin way Colorado would move there.

ISU would (pair with Iowa), but they are the 'state' school of Iowa (that's like Texas Tech in Texas...anyone, anyone...)...no where near the academics of the other 11 schools (maybe MSU and PSU).

If Colorado moves it will only be to the Pac10-if that offer opened up I do believe they would be gone in a heartbeat.

Seems like Missouri is the best pick because it adds TVs in STL and KC, and it's a fine school, although it would be at the bottom of the Big 10 academically.

What TVs does TCU bring to the Big 12? Hogs smell good. Why didn't CSU get added before? Is CU their friend?
