Pointing the finger!

Postby Pony94 » Mon Sep 03, 2007 8:51 pm

I hate doing this, but I think the coaching staff really blew this one. The team was simply not prepared. I think this is far too often the case. We didnt seem to have a plan at all....even after months of time to prepare. I understand Tech has bigger and better athletes, but we should put up a better fight and preparedness and quality coaching can help to offset our disadvantages.

I hope this isn't an indication of things to come!

In my opinion, too many things went wrong for the blame to fall anywhere but with the Coaches.

Willis throwing behind receivers, recievers droping the easy catches, countless 3d and long conversions against our defense, Mapps and Henderson playing "make a wish" with the football on returns... When the blame stick starts to get handed out to too many individuals, I start to look at the coaches.

One thing to consider though: I think our team died inside when the Sand Aggies started doing the "Raider-Power" chant in the stadium. They pwned us in our own house and I think the team felt it.

i agree, i think coaching was a HUGE disaster today. ive been a fan and proponent of bennett for a while, but when i hear "we were not prepared" from a coach who is on the hot seat...i raise questions. if we don't see mass improvement in the next couple games, i think there is a legitimate chance we see phil get canned mid-season. i think orsini needs to start drafting a candidate list, if he hasn't already

I think as usual Coaching is the easy answer. I see better more skilled athletes across the board on Tech's team

I can give you that on the 3rd down conversions, but I'm pretty confident the other gaffs I pointed out were more coaching/preparation related.

I agree. Coaching was horrible. This team was not prepared to play and that falls squarely on the shoulders of the coaches. If we lose--even if we lose big--I can handle that if we play well and are simply out-muscled. But that wasn't the case today. Too many dropped passes. Ineffective tackling. Poor and unimaginative offensive schemes. Defensive schemes were not creative and were predictable. Can't get the plays in on time which frustrated the players and cost us a time out. Poor special teams performance--inexcusable to have the returners run into each other twice. The comments about JWill not moving after handing the ball off is a comment about the coaches not being sophisticated enough to teach the team how to play. I'll give Bennett that he's forgotten more about football than any of us can remember. But his knowledge must translate to on-the-field performance. And it didn't. And it hasn't.

This is the first time I have read the correct reason for the outcome this evening.

True. We have some great athletes. They have more of them. I do believe we have more than I can remember in recent years, though.

The TT fans' chant made me want to puke.

Does TCU have athletes that much better then Baylor? Its not all talent.

However - it is easy to see the talent difference just looking down there...but it is time we get the talent and that is also coaching. Cant beat the BCS thing - but the total SMU package should be among the best choices for a non BCS choice - and we are not viewed that way by those athletes.

What I am worn out with is his staff. They seem junior college to me in some key spots.

according to the experts TCU outrecruited Baylor every year from 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006-so yes.

Where's the beef? In the Tech offesnive line.

Postby Sam I Am » Mon Sep 03, 2007 9:35 pm

The weight and height differential between the Tech offensive line and the SMU pass rush was massive. Now wonder we couldn't get to the passer. The ESPN commentator identified the many performance failures by the home team that were clearly coaching deficits. But you can't coach size, and in football size matters. So does speed. This loss is bearable because of the great advantages a BCS Big 12 team has in recruitng. The rest of the NC games will tell the tale.

A simple way to describe the talent difference is to look at the separation the Tech receivers had when they threw deep compared to the sandwiching double coverage we have whenever we throw deep. We do not have anyone that can separate from a backpedaling DB. That is why the defenses play us so tight and break up our short throws whereas their short throws are wide open because we have to start off deep to cover deep.

And none of that begins to point out the differences in the linemen.

I thought that Robinson was supposed to solve that problem!

which is why I am so dumbfounded about Sledge starting outside;. Look I see some uses for Sledge as a possession receiver. He ain't a home run receiver though but they insist on trying to get Sledge deep. It ain't working.
