Heard the band did Fiddler on the Roof Again

Postby George S. Patton » Mon Sep 10, 2007 3:43 pm

Fortunately, I was in the concourse level talking with people and didn't know until halftime was over.

I guess our band couldn't get enough of a good train wreck? But curious, did it sound any better than Monday?

It actually sounded much better. They took out the first song with the trumpets on the press box, and they actually put out some volume this week. I guess they just needed an extra week of practice.

I can't believe they did the same show again...

From what I hear, it was better, they cut out the slower songs and the trumpets on the roof.

I actually liked the trumpets on teh roof...I was too busy though this past saturday laughing at the "security" trying to herd the kids from the grass embankment to have noticed what the band was doing

Yeah. They had a handle on all those kids in the south end zone, didn't they?

I kinda liked NTSU's band (aside from the uni's). Maybe our band can just take game days off and let the opposing band play the whole time.

You people just amaze me.

Now you are complaining the band repeated a half time show. This year the band only had 2 weeks to teach freshmen how to march and play Mustang Band style, teach them the sprit songs (we only have 4 fight songs, not just one). Then they all had to learn a whole lot of new music and a half time show. Then on top of all that, they only had 4 days to learn another half time show. Give it a rest.

The normal course of preparation for the Mustang Band is to learn and perform a half time show at home, then repeat that show on the road. Then learn another half time show for the next home game. If you don't like this, then they could do what the Texas Band, NTSU, TCU, Texas A&M, and almost every other college marching band does. Learn one show and perform it every week. Is that what you want?

YOU JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND, REALIZE AND APPRECIATE WHAT YOU HAVE AT SMU.

I want to know when you are going to wake up and get those snazzy green polos and khaiki shorts worn by both NTSU and Baylor on their visits to Ford. Until that is done, drop that "best dressed band" stuff. :D

My wife, not the most knowledgable on football but quite the fashion lady reamarked at how hideous the NTSU band looked in those wrinkled, shabby outfits.

OK I am done with band stuff for the rest of my life.

I appreciate you guys. But the Labor Day show was terrible. It didn't sound like y'all were ready to do it.

I wouldn't criticize if I didn't care about this band.

And did you notice how all those khaki shorts matched? You would think they would arrange for some manufacturer to show up with tons of difference sizes of the same shorts.

They just wore those because they had to come straight from work. Lots of lawns to mow on Saturdays.

And since they were already in Highland Park, why drive all the way back to Denton to change clothes?

The band sounded TONS better on Saturday. I love those charts to begin with. But when they are played correctly, they sound freaking awesome.

I was disappointed they ran the same show. It seems lazy to me. They only released the football schedule in February. Somebody should have realized we had back-to-back home games five days apart and planned accordingly. This would have never have happened under previous administrations. At least they played it SO much better this time, that it made me forget that I had heard it before.

There are three weeks before the home game, so hopefully we'll hear something different next time instead of lame excuses.
