Phil - a Class Act

Postby FroggieFever » Sun Sep 23, 2007 12:01 am

Ponies,

I was on the sideline for the beginning of the game, and I happened to see Phil walk down the steps towards the field during warmup. I was about ten feet away from him as he was coming down the steps and I said "good luck tonight." Coach Bennett then went out of his way to come over to me to shake my hand and say "thank you." Mind you, I was decked out in a purple TCU Polo.

He seems like a wonderful guy - I'm disappointed he couldn't pull the team together, however.

We all feel the same way (on both accounts). I don't care if we get Leona Helmsley's ghost to coach this team next year if that gets us a CUSA title, though.

Yes - he is a "class act".
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

Any school out there need a "class act"? We'll trade you for a decent head football coach.

PB was a frog once

Coaches move around in their careers and have ties here and there. PB was at TCU once, so it was appropriate for him to be a gentleman in
Ft. Worth. Besides, he doesn't get much encouragement on the home front does he.

If I knew (or at least had a strong premonition) that I was soon to be out of a job, I would be really nice to anyone that was a potential new employer as well.

Say what you want about PB, but he had success before SMU, and I predict he will most likely have success after SMU, whether he ends up experiencing it on the Hilltop or not.

I heard there's an opening in Lubbock... he would do well there. Seriously.

Leach's aerial circus would distract from the fact that PB 's defensive strategies to stop the run "ALL OUT" is a bit OUTdated.

But then, I've forgotten more about, uh, er, I forget. Nevermind.

Bennett will not go to Texas Tech. If he goes anywhere, it will be near Bryan/College Station. His new wife and stepdaughters live down there. PB will resign from SMU at the end of this season - whether he has a winning season and bowl game or not.

first time i've ever seen talk of phil resigning on the board, got a weird feeling. u think he'd resign after doing absolutely nothing for the better half of a decade here?

Bennett in the end may not succeed in taking SMU to a bowl game and a conference championship and may move on. But I think it's unfair to say he's been here for 6 years and done nothing. He has not accomplished the goals he set, and were set for him, but he has not done nothing.

I've mentioned it in a couple of other threads this past week and there has been discussion about it.
