it is a good read, but I don't know if Orsini and Turner can accomplish two things first--get the rules modified so we can compete and second get the money to pay what most of these coaches will demand without the liberal faculty busting a gut!

Interesting article indeed. I think the beginning of the article is dead on...we have seen the same mistakes game after game, year after year. Poor tackling has been a problem for quite some time. If PB just realized that yesterday, he hasnt been paying attention to the games.

I just dont feel that our players are getting any better after spending time in the program. I am sure there are some kids that have improved, but I cant think of too many. I dont see an improvement in Willis or Martin. I certainly dont see an improvement on defense.

Plain and simply...FRUSTRATING. These players can do much better and need to be coached. I think everyone that thought we could be 4-1 right now failed to factor in the coaching aspect. I think we should be 4-1 right now; however, lack of adjustments to other teams, lack of imagination in the game plan and poor management of the game has lead us to this point.

If a coaching staff costs you one game, I can live with that, but 4 games, I think that is INEXCUSABLE!

"... get the money to pay what most of these coaches will demand without the liberal faculty busting a gut!..."

Like having the inmates running the asylum. So true, so true.

Who was the idiot in the first place who even gave them that power inthe first place? What you're telling us is that a bunch of pinhead faculty geeks who have never had a real job in their life have responsibility for profit & loss in a department that has no affect on them whatsoever. If they feel that way, perhaps we should let them offset the athletic dept. deficits with additional deductions from their paychecks???

What can be given, can always be taken back. Why make this so damn diffcult??? Just do it!!!

SMU has never been known for leadership & this is the reason why. Turner!!! Earn your $$$ & make things happen or go find another "job"!!!
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

A) Anyone who thinks the faculty at SMU is "liberal" has spent little or no time at other schools. Sure, there are some, but it's nothing compared to most universities.

B) Who cares if the faculty "busts a gut"? A winning team brings more attention to a university, a higher number of applicants, subsequently a higher number of good students and ultimately more resources to pursue their area of academic study.

I bet the next coach will make about twice what Coach Bennett is making.

If we want to really be top 25 then we are going to have to pay $1.5 Mil for a head coach and an equal amount for real assistant coaches.

Where did you learn that? I've never seen a specific amount published before, and thought that as a private institution, SMU wasn't obligated to release that information.

No idea if they just put up a number they "think" is right. But his salary is listed as $495,602.
