Must have gotten in Q-Car's stash when he said that.
No, no, no, no. Donnan was horrible with Georgia's talent. I can't imagine how bad he would be with SMU.
Re: Just throwing another name out thereAnother Kansas State asst. coach alum. ![]() SMU needs someone who has BEEN a head coach prior to coming to The Hilltop.
If Bennett goes and we don't go to a bowl game (one can hope). My money is still on David Cutcliffe the former Ole Miss coach. He was 44-29 in his career with only one losing season at Ole Miss when he was fired (after five winning seasons). Turner probably knows him and Orsini probably knows him as well (he had a stint at ND as a QB coach). He's the OC now at Tennessee. We don't know who is going to be fired this fall and who'll be looking for a coach, but there could be some big names on the street this fall.
Cutcliff is the one whose gets the credit for developing peyton and eli but i see this highly unlikely hes already coached an sec team in ole miss. he is one that could do much better than smu.
Bennett should be fired the minute after the 7th loss. Get another coach in immediately and salvage a recruiting season.
If you buy that theory, other than Bowden, who else is available? And no to Jim Donnan. Can we stay in-house and elevate Burns?
That last question discredits the rest of your post. Put down the crack pipe. Step back. Use your brain.
I'd love it if we could Cutclife.
But no way he looks at the SMU job. Unless it pays 2.5 million. Dude won a decent amount at Ole Miss and left to be the OC at Tenn. He'll coach at another BCS school. Bob Davie is almost in Gerry Dinardo retread territory. If PB can't right the ship and SMU goes with a retread I'd rather get a one who has a track record of winning at a school similar to SMU... see Gary Barnett. For the record I don't consider Terry Bowden a retread. If we could get him that would be great too.
The great thing about this coaching search (and it's coming) is that there are a lot of great names out there as opposed to the last time. And we now have an AD with a proven track record of bringing in big names to lesser programs. Last time, we tried to interview Norm Chow, interviewed Skip Holtz, Jimbo Fisher, Charlie Walters, and Bennett. This year, names out there i think we can make a run at, Esp with Orsini, are guys that have won and won big as HCs in BCS conferences. Also, a lot of these names are guys like O'Leary who need a second chance.
Terry Bowden Gary Barnett Rick Neuhisel Larry Coker Dan McCarney Bob Davie Buddy Teevens Jim Donnen And assuming these guys get canned David Cutcliff Houston Nutt Dennis Franchoine You can point out pros and cons about all of these guys, but all of them have won as head coaches in BCS conferences. Something that nobody we have EVER interviewed in the past has.
I think just possibly the Burns reference was sarcastic
Okay how about this guy? http://staythirstymyfriends.com/
