The Florida DC is BCS material not CUSA material. Similar to Gene Chizik leaving UT for Iowa State. Not an option.

Ah...and you think that doesn't hold true for each and every coach we are looking at? You continue to amaze with your ignorant posts.

Aren't we considering top current Coordinators, top former Head coaches, or fallen ones, and perhaps up and coming lower division HCs, such as:

Major Applewhite
Paul Johnson
Franchione (post firing)
Tommy Tuberville (assuming he loses and gets fired, not likely)
Jimbo Fisher
Houston Nutt (who will be considered for Nebraska)
Turner Gill (see above)

I in not way suggest that they would prefer SMU over other potential offers, but to say that someone is BCS material and not CUSA material is ridiculous.

Chizik royally F'ed up going to a "BCS" team like Iowa State...he would have been better off waiting for a better job, or going to a lower division team he could be a 'winner' at...then jumping to a top BCS team.

He will be out of head coaching in a few years b/c you can't win at some of these mid-lower BCS teams. Rarely do you bring them up like Mangione has at KU this year.

If we hire another Offensive or Defensive coordinator who has never been the HEAD COACH OF A DIVISION 1 FOOTBALL TEAM WITH SOME LEVEL OF SUCCESS we will continue to lose. I don't care if he comes from Florida, USC, Alabama, Texas, Texas Tech, etc. That includes Major Applewhite.

He is did well calling plays for Rice but being a HEAD COACH especially in a situation like ours is going to take someone REALLY Special. All coordinator experiments ended with Bennett. This season is an absolute embarrassment to this University. Even more so than any season over the last 20 years because of the (FALSE) expectations and the Money poured into the marketing campaign. Orsini failed by not firing Bennett last spring and you can bet the farm he will make up for it with the new hire.

I don't disagree. The upside to Applebutter is that he may be able to recruit, even against the big boys.

The worst thing about 1-6 is that it came after "Pony Up"

The really sad thing is that so many of my SMU buddies, people who really care about the school, gave up on football years ago. It is absolutely too painful to watch this train wreck year after year.

Orsini? He should have fired PB last year when we couldnt convert two separate 1st and goal situations at the RICE 1 YARD LINE! Not the Texas 1 yard line, the TCU 1 yard line or even the UTEP 1 yard line. THE FRIGGIN RICE 1 YARD LINE!

PB may be a great guy, but the team isnt buying whatever he is selling. Neither are a huge host of people who otherwise would be stalwart season ticket holders. Please end our misery

Charlie Strong is BCS material not CUSA material. When you are at a top-rung BCS school, those top assistants usually go to mid-level BCS programs.

I think your assessment of Chizik better wait for a few years before we really know.

He will not be a candidate here.

Major Applewhite? Sure. He hasn't been at a BCS school long enough to build up the cred that Strong has. That's why Strong is BCS material.

And your assessment of my "ignorance" is blinded by your blind rage that really makes you look very amateur.

Again, Charlie Strong is not on the table.

Tommy Tuberville was mentioned in this thread as a possible head coach. That guy gave lsu the game by kicking those 20 yard kick-offs. Didn't agree on that strategy.

PLease read my posts of how this was a year of wasted time...it set us back another year. I understand all the reasoning and rationalization as to WHY we had to do it (bs), but it was still a big fat waste of time and I am glad I didn't buy tickets.

Charlie Strong may or may not be on the table. If he is not, it is NOT because he is 'bcs' material, or he would have been hired somewhere by now after all the interviews he's been on.

You are an idiot.
Orsini failed by not firing Bennett last spring.
.........WRONG......Because of Copeland extending Bennett's contract a few years back through the 2009 season, Orsini was really forced under a rock for a while after taking the AD job here. All issues considered, Orsini needed to give Bennett another year.
