it will NEVER EVER happen. And if it does he will get fired within 3 years. The days of the wishone at the Big 12 Level are over boys and girls. Players in the Big 12 are too big, fast, strong and quick. That's the reason it doesn't work in the NFL and why it won't work in a Top BCS conference. Texas A&M tries to run that style of option football-and their Coaches is just about out of time. Sorry to break up this Paul Johnson love fest but no quality football program is going to take a chance on a guy who hasn't proven that he can accomplish the most important factor in a quality program-Recruit.

Stallion,

That Pitt team Navy beat a couple of weeks ago is just as fast and big as any Big 12 team with the exception of OU and maybe UT.

Johnson coaches according to the personel he has. You seem to forget he was Hawaii's OC and he wasn't running the option there.

The notion that Paul Johnson has ever run an offense substantially different than the one he runs today is simply innacurate. It is based on a single sentence using the word "spread offense" in his bio that is simply not supported by the evidence. He might of called it a spread, but he still ran it 70% of the time.

I'm glad you guys aren't the ones doing the hiring. At the rate I read, there is no one out ther you either would or could hire. Turn FORD into the soccer facility Shellas deserves.
Long live Thomas Sowell!

I think Fran would be a perfect fit at Nebraska. They can recruit exactly the kind of players he needs to be succesful. All they need is a good option QB and 2 good RBs (like the good ol Pony Express days). Nebraska won 3 NCs with that offense. It's very hard to recruit spread guys up there. IMO Fran is as good as gone from A&M unless he wins out.

Remember when we hosted the College Cup? A regulation soccer field doesn't actually fit. The corner kicks were being taken off of the astroturf warning track area. I suppose we could take out a few rows of seats though, seeing how rarely we use them.

Actually, the new Aquatic Center/Natatorium would fit nicely inside Ford Stadium with room for two Olympic size pools and a separate diving well. Not bad.

First, I would love to have Johnson as a coach. That said, he won't come to SMU. He has a great gig at Navy. He has offers for a lot more money at BCS programs which he has turned down so far. He pretty much has a job for as long as he wants one there (at least til they lose to Army more than one year in a row). So, why would he come to SMU? Academic restrictions are worse at SMU. He would have to deal with more disciplinary issues than at Navy (where players have to behave themselves or they're walking guard duty). I would think that Navy is pretty much a easy job for any coach (IF YOU WIN). Mark my words, he would only leave Navy to go to a more high profile BCS type job. Nebraska certainly would get his attention.

PB was a great recruiter of JC players. K-State was JV heaven. Too bad Copeland didn't notice that small point.

Phil Bennett's greatest high school recruiting in Texas were players others overlooked or JUCOs like Michael Bishop. K-State was no recruiting juggernaut in Texas High School recruiting ever before or after Bennett. I told you at the time this was a bunch of PR [deleted]. At the time he was hired K-State had something like 42 JUCOs on its squad-that's half the team

And he had been the DC at Kansas State for 2 years, running a defense made up of Mike Stoops players.......

2001-SMU hires Phil Bennett Defensive Coordinator of a team of 42 JUCOs nearly all of which could not have been admitted to SMU at the time

2007-now many of you want to go hire a Coach who gets to recruit 75 players a year-35 of which are stashed in their Prep School every year.

2013- who we going to hire when you realize once again you hired the wrong man for the wrong job because you don't focus on the required qualifications for this Job-SMU

how many of our players had offers? I will tell you that an Air Force freshman transfer(Akinyemi) and a Naval Academy Prep transfer (Ryan Leonard) were BOTH good enough to start immediately at SMU under Phil Bennett. LB Chris Gedweed from the Cavan days is another who was multiple year starter at SMU. I think there was a 4th under Cavan too-a LB who started for SMU-but I can't recall specifically. Look when schools like SMU, Rice, Tulane et al are taking almost a oomplete class of sleepers then it helps to be able to weed out from a huge class of sleepers. The point is that Paul Johnson has never proven he can recruit under NCAA scholarship limitations -in fact he does not compete under NCAA recruiting rules.
