If we go the assistant route....what about Jerry Gray? Texas and SMU ties.

I agree-plus this year there just are not too many bight young superstar assistants with strong ties to Texas recruiting. The UT and OU staffs have been picked over. The A&M staff has turned over and hasn't been very successful. I guess if you had to name one it would be Brent Venables at OU. Also, Bo Pellini has Big 12 experience. Pellini would have to be a consideration but I think he's aiming higher. Gill has the best resume and longest recruiting experience in Texas-he has built an impressive resume-he ain't just a token consideration. If he wins the MAC at Buffalo-he'll get interviews all over the Country.

What I find ironic is that if we had hired Gill instead of Bennett, today, Gill would either be off for Nebraska or more likely his head coaching career would be dead due to the restrictions at SMU, and we would be probably saying we wish we would have gone with Bennett.

I think we have to go with someone who has head coaching experience
Never take the path of least resistance.

If it were me, and I know this runs contrary to just about everybody, I call Bo Pelini up and make him my best offer.
