Coker undoubtedly check out smu gig

"If Coker wanted the TU job when Steve Kragthorpe left (he did), the man who led Miami (Fla.) to a national title will undoubtedly check out the SMU position. TU and SMU have the potential to be two of the best jobs in C-USA.
Bowden reportedly is interested in the Memphis gig if Tommy West is let go. Bowden and Coker would make interesting additions to C-USA."

This would be the worst hire. He was given the keys to Miami when they were the best team in college football and in 5 years, made them irrelevant. He cleary is a guy who cannot run a college football program. Good X and O guy, but he had an A+ team/program and made them average in 5 years. Not the kind of guy who can take a D- team/program and turn them in winners. Hell, Rice and Tulsa did not want him

I agree completely. Thats why I think a guy like Terry Bowden with at least some track record of winning is important. IMO, Coker would be a terrible hire

You guys would complain about hiring a coach who has won a national title? How many coaches have won national titles? Not too many. Miami's downturn also had to do with losing a lot of players to the NFL.

I just think we need to be smart about this. Cooker's resume is great. But really, this job is about turning something around. Cooker turned Miami around in the wrong direction.

Dwan, not to diagree, but there is only one way to go after winning a National Title . . . it is almost impossible to do it back to back . . . not defending Coker, just throwing that out there.

As I said before, Coker was handed the keys to a Lamborghini and he drove it into a ditch.

does age (and how old is Coker?) mean that much in coaching? i have no idea, i understand younger is better, more exciting, enthusiastic, handles stress better(sometimes), but does that make them a better coach?

we need a guy who can build. Coker did the opposite of build. Sure there is always going to be a drop of in talent and dynasties cant really exist in college football these days. But to go from being a top 5 team to not ranked, losing 6 games in a season, and losing control of the players like the FIU fight....just not what we need
