SMU Fans Suffering From Superman Syndromesome of these posts are really getting pretty funny with the sense of entittement from some SMU fans. "If we can only get Superman to Coach SMU this nitemare will be over". Guess what Superman may not be availiable. Get used to it. Geez even Ponyboy had it right when he pointed out that none of the qualities needed to turn this program around require a "Big Splash". Would it be nice yes. Money can't buy everything. Coaches come Coaches go. Build the best damn program you can and more Coaches will be interested and more will be successful. Yes I hope SMU get a quality Coach with a proven track record and big name reputation-but it takes two to Tango. And many Coaches may not find the SMU attractive for very good reasons. SMU Fans perception of its entitlement to a Big Splash would probably bring laughter from much of the Country.
How much is Coach Doh involved in the recruiting of our next football coach? I assume that Coach Doh has a lot of national street cred. Do you think Orsini is having Doh talk to candidates (or if the guy's been hired, then Doh talked to him) to provide assurances about the situation here, or at least refuting some of the thoughts about the school? Like "SMU is a swell place, you can recruit here, they can write checks," etc.?
Does Coach Doh give us a better chance of hiring a "big name, big splash coach?" Superman excluded, of course.
I don't care for superman as our next coach, however, he would make one incredible LB.
Just send 'da money.

I just want someone who is a proven manager/recruiter. Actually I like all coaching candidates mentioned as possible coaches at SMU except Kregthorpe.
I would be very happy with Kragthorpe and think we all should be if it happens. Of course I think we should all be happy if it is Fran. We should just all be happy. That said, keep up with the Arkansas/Mississippi State game this weekend. There is a possibility (my rumor no one elses) that the loser could become a leading candidate if a deal has not already been struck. I would be very happy with either of them.
(I personally think as deal has already been struck)
Nutt seems less and less likely to get fired this season. First, U of A's new AD doesn't take control until Jan 1, 2008. For now UA has Broyles as AD. I don't see Broyles firing Nutt then hiring a coach with the new AD sitting on the sidelines waiting until the New Year to have final say. Also, I don't see the new AD waiting until Jan 1 to fire Nutt and start the hiring process. That would waste an entire recruiting class. Nutt will have to quit for him to be available (which is possible). So I don’t think the final 2 games of the year for UA are make or break for Nutt. Nutt’s future is in his hands. He can stay one more year (or more depending on performance) or jump ship this year and find new opportunities.

tell that to hugh heffner
What the "experts" I talk to say is that Nutt will leave on his own if he is not fired. But if he does not resign, they will "negotiate" a designed resignation for him. It seems to be foregone conclusion that he is gone. The problem that the fans are having is exactly what you are pointing out. The President (White) is apparently going to be in complete charge of the new hire and his football acumen leaves a lot to be desired. We shall see.
At least Superman already wears the correct colors for S.M.U.
