We need a Pep Rally!!
Seriously- We need to have a Friday Night Pep Rally to show our boys we have not given up on them. OK- I am not trying to copy the buzzheads in College Station-But, this could be alot of fun!! I can only imagine how dejected our young players are. God Forbid it might even get a mention in the Dallas Morning News(Recruits read too)
Re: We need a Pep Rally!!
I'd be all over that.
How could that be arranged?

Re: We need a Pep Rally!!
Yeah but the big question is how do we get students there? It's allready a chore getting a lot of them to games (granted there are a lot of them there now, specially SigEps), but what about taking away another weeknight?
I'm not saying I wouldn't go. Hell, I'm in the band, I'll definatly be there. But would a studentless pep rally actually rally any pep? :hmm:

Re: We need a Pep Rally!!
One thing I never liked about our past "pep rallies" was that it seemes like there was never a chance for them to really pump people up. They always try to sell stuff like this to the Greeks, and they might get "spirit points" for homecoming or something for going, but they always show up wearing jerseys, half of which aren't SMU colors, and then the entire thing turns into a recruitment event if any freshmen show.
We need a good old fashioned pep rally where we just say "if you are spirited about SMU and want to support the team, come out" instead of dragging organizations there just so they can be checked off for showing up. I think a real pep rally could be really cool, they might be small at first, but we would have diehards who are into it.
I guess my point is that they would be more special if people didn't have to be enticed or tricked to be there with anything other than real SMU spirit. I bet if people heard about it, they would go. I think a lot of us students would be surprised at how many other students actually care.
Questions, comments, snide remarks?

Good idea. However, the first thing you have to do is teach the so-called 'cheerleaders' on how to actually 'pump up' a crowd! All they do is stand on the sidelines and throw each other in the air! That's not what 'cheerleading' (yell leading) is.

Re: We need a Pep Rally!!
Is there any place on campus where DPS would allow a big-@ss FIRE? I know that's cliched, but you just got to have a fire. For the TCU game, people could bring frogs they've caught and throw them in, one by one (that's a joke, everybody relax). Jackie Sherrill would like that. But there's a reason pep rallies feature fire, it adds spectacle. Burning the other team in effigy is actually quite enjoyable. That's why so many places do it.
Sally is right. Start them small, and make them happenin'. If they look like fun, people will eventually come in greater #'s, because they WANT to. FIRE!!

as cool as a big [deleted] fire would be, I doubt that HP/UP would let anyone have one anywhere near or on campus. Never hurt to try though.
