How great that would have been.

Turner is worthless. He's just like Copeland - wants to do the minimum to get a program that's just good enough to pacify the alums. I don't believe he really wants to WIN.
What is the record of the football team under Turner?

Butch Davis would have been a wow hire in my book.

Assuming this is true:
I have said this over and over again. You guys don't get it, or you don't care. Football, withstanding the addition of Ford Stadium, is an afterthought to Turner. He has had TWICE as long as Pye did to continue to screw it up, and he has arguably produced worse teams in worse conferences than under Pye.
Turner has been such a prodigious fund-raiser, the Board of Trustees trusts him implicitly. Add the Bush Library, the Spanish Museum (largest collection of Spanish art outside Spain), and God knows what else, and he gets a pass on the football coach (after all, the grad rate is 100%). Stallion calls it "the model", and he well may be right. I call it the fact that the President of the university isn't concerned with the same things that Orsini is because his job by nature demonstrates that he isn't supposed to be.
If Turner bothers to read this or similar posts, he needs to understand that football games are the best way to link alumni together and give them a sense of pride about the school that comes in an easy, family-oriented package with a nice little bow on top. Academics just doesn't do that.
Perhaps he is reacting to his experience at Ole Miss; I dunno. But Johnson isn't a good fit here for a variety of reasons, and Turner needs to allow Orsini to do his job. Otherwise, why the hell did he hire him?

Becasue appearances mean everything in his job. Do you really think having the largest collection of Spanish art outside Spain matters to 99% of students/alumni at SMU? Turner is not out to impress you or me. He is beholden to the Board. Orsini is a bone to you and me, but Turner knows he still has the final say.

Anyone that Turner would want would suck. Keep Turner out of the promise.

Didn't you know? The Spanish Art Collection was one of the reasons that PB came to SMU.

while i agree under Turner the SMU football team has suffered, however Turner did get the new stadium built, he did get the BLVD rocking, and he did hire Orsini so maybe now we can finally hire a REAL COACH!

I agree. I think the real problem was having Copeland as an athletic director. He should have been pushing Turner to make changes to the "model" all along. Instead he just coasted for the last 10 years into retirement. Notice that Orsini is pushing and all of a sudden we have a new $13 million Crum Center and a $20 million gift for a new Department of Education from Harold Simmons and his wife? That didn't just happen by accident. I feel confident that he had some input into fully reviving the education department as well as getting the Crum Center built with hiring Doh as the objective.

Don't forget the 10 million, the mob boss quickly collected for the coaching kitty! Oh, and the million dollar scoreboard and new floor for Moody. Orsini has been a busy man.

"Sorry  I like to see the ball thrown into the end zone, too."
Now we are so picky that scoring and winning are not enough? We have to throw it into the endzone to win to make folk happy? Can we specify the collor of the ball as well?
Long live Thomas Sowell!

while we're at it, dad, I don't like the font that is used for the lettering in the end zone. I just know that contributes to our losing ways!
