0-8 in Conference USA. 4 games lost in OT and/or last play of the game, plus the Tulsa game which was all but won. Thats 5 games we gave away. So are we a completely horrible program or was it a bunch of bad luck and injuries this season? I can't decide. What I do know is that i am sick and tired of being an SMU fan. How could you not be?

As someone pointed out to me earlier - "At this point any fans SMU has left have to be a little nuts"

I resemble that remark. Being a fan (and alum) is not a option, but an assignment. College FB is not a professional sport, where you can change loyalities. Last time I checked, I still have a degree from our university.
Perhaps holding your breath will help?

Would that I could hold my breath forever! Death would be far easier than being an SMU fan which I can never seem to give up on.

we are not a 1-11 team. We played with several bowl teams but a consistent theme in most of those losses was an iability to make a key plays on defense to win the game. a Series of 99 yard yard drives. We are way weaker defensively than anybody could have believed at the start of the season-and I rated every defensive unit a C or below at the start of the season. We were worse than that. Did we end up giving up 40 ppg? Close anyway. We got a lot of rebuilding to do on defense. Not sure where our LBs come from unless players are moved.

Completely agree. No one saw the defense being THIS bad, but down the stretch they started playing better. Not good by any stretch of the imagination, but better.

Hoop, if our defense holds the other team to 27 points, we win 7 games. Score on more time on Tulane and its 8 wins. If we have a short yardage offense last year, we win at least 7. Ifs and buts, right????
That's why I am hoping Franchione comes here. Maybe his son can send us some of his juco defensive studs, a few commits maybe decommit and come with him, his offense is tailor made for Willis, yada, yada. Ifs and buts, right?????????

I agree. How did it get so bad, given the presumed defensive skills of the HC?

You resemble the remark? Weird that you could look similar to a remark. Maybe you resent it?

Defensive Stats. OK we stayed barely below 40 ppg by 3 points -so probably 39.9 ppg. We stayed about 16 total yards under 500 yards given up per game so about 498.5. We gave up 38 or more points per game on 9 occasions. Whew!

The question that nags at me on this season is, did PB really think we were a bowl team when the season started, or did he know our defense would be giving up record yardage? After the Arkie State debacle I said I didn't think we would win another game but the kool aid continued to flow on this board. As it turns out we SHOULD have at least won one more game, but it was obvious after NT and Ark State that nothing would be easy.
SURELY PB knew the defense was gonna suck. That is his specialty right?

How did it happen? Well, let's start with (counting the season ending injury to Muse) the fact we lost our ENTIRE DL, our MLB and all-CUSA Safety. We just weren't very deep and could not replace those losses.

Chill out and watch an episode of the Three Stooges. It will ease some of your pain and will explain the "remark that he resembles".
