If he is indeed the frontrunner in this pickle, then, yeah, I believe to some degree Barnett is having to do just that...sell his credentials and downplay his, shall we say, history. Right/wrong/indifferent.

And Turner wants an upstanding kind of Paul Johnson guy. Probably would be a great coach, but Turner is delusional if he thinks Johnson can recruit the kind of kids that go to Annapolis. That's silly. Top athletes or no, those are different young men with a different kind of discipline and drive. SMU's we are privileged doesn't play well with that crowd.

Its not Barnett. Baggage is one thing, but what he said about that girl on national TV is borderline (Nappie Head Hoes). He anit coming here. Paul Johnson will stay put unless Nebraska offers him a job.

You actually equate "Nappie Head Hoes" with "that girl was a terrible kicker"?

Yes. Both comments were blow way out of proportion by people with a dishonest agenda.

He said more than that. And the way he said it on national TV was the reason he was let go. It was a womens rights thing. Nappie head hoes was a black thing. Yes there is a difference, but this is not the forum for that.

Turner wants football and basketball to succeed as much as anyone else in this University. He didn't get in the way of the Doh hire, did he? Nope. Turner is going to let Orsini pick whomever he chooses, and rubberstamp the choice.

Stallion is on board with any improvement we can make to the program, he has always been consistant about that. As far as his "model" are concerned, when we hire a big name with pull as football coach, and you allready have one in basketball, changes are going to be made to make SMU more competetive, because they have the background for people to trust in what needs to be done.

Changes have already been made and are in the progress of being made to help recruiting. Things were improved during the Bennett era, but it is difficult to judge whether or not those just didn't have an impact, or did the loss of someone like a Giles have a bigger impact than we realize on the quality of the recruiting classes.

We all hope that someone with a "name" comes in. Someone who has the authority and prestige to stand up and tell the administration changes that need to be made in order for SMU to compete. Then, it will be our collective responsibility to stand behind our coach and make the same demands. These kind of things happened in basketball when Doh came in (scoreboard, practice facility, new floor), and we need to be behind the new football coach as well, because he is going to be powerful enough to make the same types of demands.

Just like Jones and the Cowboys had an epiphany that the puppet coaches wouldn't work and went out and got Parcells to turn the franchise around, I firmly believe that Orsini and Turner have reached the exact same conclusion, and will bring someone in who has the power and prestige to turn the Mustangs into a winning football program.

Doh was a good hire for the university, not for the BB program. He has a clean past, great history (as a player), he can always use the I played with Michael Jordan thing, but he sucks as a coach. He did at his alma mata and now he is at SMU. I wonder why? The rest of the BB coaching world found out he could not coach. What other reason would Doh be coaching at SMU. Bad example JasonB.

Doherty is such an improvement over Jimmy Tubbs.

Matt is going to do well, just give him time bigdaddy.

Doh is just soooooo polished, I can't see him failing.

I hope he does succeed, but history shows that he will not. We took a nonproven coach and combined him with a nonproven program. What did we prove? He will be given all the time needed. He will be here as long as Orsini is here, 3-5 years. Put your seatbelt on, its going to be a bumpy ride.

Willis does have an IDEA and so does Morestead and the other team captains.

Maybe that's why they aren't crying that they will transfer if PB was fired this time around

Too late to transfer now. Sit out a year and have one to play, no! The captains on the team know who the choices are. Who the coach will be is still yet to be detemined.

His first recruiting class at UNC won a national championship. Doh's model is to tear things down, bring in his players, and build it up. Some coaches like to do that. It means you take a step back before you go three steps forward. UNC didn't have the patience for it - they just want to reload. This season will be a step back, end of the year we will start playing a lot better. Next year we will start picking it back up again, and the year after that SMU basketball will be really, really strong.

Ok, you don't have to kick me off this board. I'm leaving forever. My relative was nothing more then a guess. Hope we get a good coach.
