Why do we have high hopes?

Postby Cadillac » Wed Nov 28, 2007 5:46 pm

I hate to start to really go doom and gloom, but why is it again that we were expecting a big name, "WOW" factor coach?

As much as anything, I'm trying to figure out if Orsini ever said anything along these lines, other than the "We're going to get the best dang coach around" line that he has to say.

The reason I ask, is because it would seem pretty bad business for him to have built all of this up without a sure thing in his pocket. I'm guessing that's why so many of us were of the opinoin that it wasn't time to panic; Orsini had put it out that this was going to be big, so we'll accept that.

My original thought (and I'm sure this was shared by many in here) was that it would be one of the Flawed Coaches who are currently out of football. But if that were the case, it just seems that we would have pulled the trigger already.

So... Did Orsini ever promise us the Moon, or are we just asking for it?

That WOW comment came from that bogus rumor mill. Now, everything has got that in their thinking. Great marketing ploy by that site.

In DMN SMU Blog today Orsini said "As we said, we're aiming high. We're looking for an established coach with a proven track record." Orsini has put himself on the line. So I guess we stay positive. He has pulled rabbits out of hats before....We have to just continue to wait like it or not.

Orsini says SMU will be a "Top 25" program.

We believe in Orsini.

Reportedly we have 1.5 million to spend.

We have wonderful football facilities.

We are a horrible team, one of the worst in Div 1.

You go from the bottom to Top 25 by hiring a "WoW" factor coach.

At least thats how I see it.

I have high expectations because a former national coach of the year went on record expressing interest in the job and the SMU President subsequently stated that SMU will not hire anyone with a past. Meanwhile Mr. Orsini keeps touting on the blog that we will be a Top 25 program.
