It was reported that Spurrier was at Duke today visiting with the AD, just days after the head coach was fired.
Can anyone honestly say that the Duke HC position is more prestigious, or offers more opportunity for success, than SMU's? At Duke, Spurrier would always be second fiddle to the real Coach K, and that just doesn't fit with his personality. I understand SS coached there previously, in the 80s and won an ACC title, but it was prior to Coach K's national championship runs.
Does any one think we have a chance of landing him, assuming we can afford him? I always assumed he was content at South Carolina for now, but this report obviously proves me wrong. It would certainly be a long shot, but why not take a shot.

Steve made a visit to the Hilltop last year. Not out of the question but unlikely at this point. I'll take him ALL DAY.
Coog, cleanup on aisle 5.

Yes, I am serious. If there is a successful coach like Spurrier out there that is available, at least in the sense that he is not irrevocably wedded to his current job, why not make a run at him? Particularly when the school he is apparently interviewing with has less to offer from a football perspective. IT'S TIME TO TAKE A CHANCE. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. What's the harm in trying?
I think he is arrogant and obnoxious and a complete disaster as a pro coach, but the man knows college FB and I have the utmost respect for him as a college football coach.

Not that the Gamecocks are anybodys dream job lol but they play in SEC. No coach willingly is going to leave that job for any job in CUSA.

They are either discussing getting Junior a job(SS Jr) or he's explaining the Stallion Model to the Duke President. What was the record of that last Coach something like 6-45-makes Phil look like Lombardi

I am glad you specified that Junior = SS Jr because I dont feel like listening to people spit absurd rumors like "Junior Seau leaving pro football to coach the mustangs.."

The food/money exchange at the drive through window does not constitute a meeting.

I swear I think some people at Ponyfans are on quaaludes...Steve Spurrier? Butch Davis? One of my "sources" tells me that Wade Phillips was spotted in Dallas the other day, do you think he might be interested?

I'm not even sure it would qualify as an "athletics" meeting. More like a work-study program for one of the academic departments.

Please read a little more carefully. No one suggested that Spurrier was spotted, contacted or expressed interest. The point was merely that Spurrier may be interested in leaving South Carolina and that as far as I am concerned if that is true we should at least make an overture to him.
Do you doubt that he is the best available coach if he is in fact available?
