Had to enter this fray. Ty Willingham may be the guy that everyone thinks is not in the running. He lead ND and Stanford to good seasons. He would out recruit any school in the south, including U. Texas. Probably the whole midwest. He is clean. He has the ND connection. SMU has more $ than is stated. The only thing is he would have to resign. This is the guy SMU is after.

No idea who he/she is. Ty Willingham. He could do the Nutt thing and resign.

Last night I sat here and spent about 2 hr.s trying to correct any errors or grammar problems with the post. Didn't want to give anyone ammunition. By the time I was done with the post and tried to post it, my time must have run out. Tried, wouldn't post. But this thing has it's own life now. So before the time runs out again, Ty has all the requirements that Orsini talked about. He could out recruit any school for a thousand miles. Wash. said he would not be fired, so he would have to quit. Fits everything including the diversity subject that Orsini brought up. He's a good coach. WOW hire. I really think this is who Orsini is after and would be a smart move. Half of the coaches on this board have been eliminated because of the WOW factor, past etc. There really aren't that many left. No OC/DC for 10m$, nope.

And beyond rank speculation, what makes you think that?

It is speculation.
Fits all the criteria set forth. Worked at private schools, Stanford and ND. Has the ND connection. Fan base not happy as they are a losing team at Wash. May do a Nutt thing? According to the DMN, Orsini said diversity is a big thing. What he means is anyones guess but to most in the country it means the 1964 law. The only pieces missing would be the CJ thing. He would put a huge print across the US by taking this job. WOW.

Yes!!!. I think there are about 6 Black coaches in D1. NONE in the D1, south USA except for Miss. St. May be wrong on that. But the 6 is correct. I am not an African American/Black. If SMU were to open the door to big time African American coaches I would be there in a second, IF I were a star. Ty could out reruit the south and most of the north. NOT trying to relive the Civil War, but this could be a big deal when you look at the coaches around the country. All white, for the most part. Orsini said this is a puzzle from the beginning. If I were betting, I would put my $ on Ty.

I still think it is a good idea for both SMU and FMC. Seems like they go together. I think Mariucci is out of the pichture. Would be a WOW hire. Seems to far away now. Who knows? He may be the next SMU coach. I started out with Bowden, then Mariucci, now think it is TY. Is there another univ. who thought they could hope for a better outcome than any of the above???? I gave my TY reasons, Bowden has his reasons, Maricci(will use your sp.) Italian names get hard to spell. Having had the time to think about where this whole thing is going. The facts from SMU, Orsinis comments, background make me think this could be the guy. I hope he is.

Reply to myself. Ment TY would be the right hire. Why does a Univ. come out and say they are not fireing someone?? ASU has not said they are going to fire Ericksonn. USC, UCLA, Cal, etc. does not say this stuff.
