re: "Duke has a very nice stadium--a 34K stadium in a natural bowl, srrounded by tall pine trees".

You gotta be kidding?

I have been to the Duke football stadium and it is not first class by any stretch of the imagination.

It is old.......it opened for the first time on October 5, 1929.

There is a track around the playing field.....how old school is that?

I was shocked the first time I saw the Duke football stadium at how poorly it looked.

It does not match the prevailing attitude of excellence that is
associated with Duke University.

Is it in a pretty setting?......yes.

But the stadium is by no means "very nice".

I went to the SMU vs NCS game in the early 90's, while in the area, we toured Cameron arena and Wallace Stadium. Wallace is an old delapatated dump, with the track around the field, 50 yard line seats are 30 yards from the sideline. The picture above is very flattering.

having lived in Durham and attended Duke games between '87-'91, I can attest to Wallace Wade Stadium being outdated. Plain bench seating, with no back support. Beautiful setting, but a stadium that needs updating. And Duke is the Baylor (doormat) of ACC football. That will be difficult, if not impossible to change

"I think Duke takes a hit from potential hires for how they dealt with the lacrosse team & its coach."

Well said firephil. That's got to get any coach or employee's attention.
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.
