With the right head football coach and staff, SMU (located in Dallas) could become one of the very best non-BCS programs in America.

SMU has big money, an outstanding local recruiting footprint (the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex is one of the Top 5 recruiting areas in the country), a gorgeous campus, strong academics, the nicest small football stadium (Gerald J. Ford Stadium - opened in 2000), exceptional (new) training facilities, more hot coeds than most recruits have ever seen, etc.

At Southern Methodist University, Paul Johnson could potentially dominate Conference USA.

A year ago, SMU hired Matt Doherty (ND and UNC) as head BB coach. Unlike past decades, SMU is now willing to compensate (pay market price) successful coaches that they want to hire.

The right person might even be able to get SMU to the point where it would be attractive to a BCS conference whenever the next wave of restructuring happens (ala Petrino at Louisville). SMU was one of the best programs in the country, period, before the NCAA brought the hammer down. Paul Johnson would be an awfully interesting hire there, but a big loss for Navy if he goes.

RUejs09 - I agree...if not for the NCAA punishment and long-lingering after effects SMU (former SWC member) would currently be in the Big Twelve Conference (instead of Baylor, also a former SWC member).

As I previously noted, with all of its built-in advantages (SMU has a lot) SMU Mustangs football could be VERY VERY successful.

Looks like some of the NJ folks are more optimistic about SMU than many of us.

Or maybe unlike most SMU fans, they have not lost for so long that they have become losers themselves - unable to remember what the mental make-up of a winner really is.

Rutgers was terrible for a lot longer than us...they've pretty much never been this good in their entire 100+ year history.

They've been to 3 freakin' bowl games in 137 years...two of which were in 2005 & 2006! I think its safe to say that they are better at losing than even we are.

BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.
