You know, that's a pretty good idea for a shirt. Thanks!

Oh dear. look forward to seeing it on the 'Vard next year. Just make sur the 'cutie' in question is PB and not PJ.

Why would he come to SMU?

Because we may be the best non-service academy program willing to take a chance on him.

The reasons many SMU fans are wary of Johnson are the same reasons bigger programs have passed him over: Runs an option offense, doesn't traditionally recruit.

We can afford to take risks. We don't have much to lose at this point. The option offense shouldn't scare us because we play in C-USA. The recruiting thing shouldn't be much of a worry because we don't get top-rated recruits anyway.

If Paul Johnson ever wants to be known as more than a service academy coach, we may be his best option. Maybe his only option, because anyone else willing to hire him can't afford his asking price.

Johnson picks SMU if his only options are Duke and SMU. If he aspires to compete for a BCS championship, the safer course if to come to SMU and win at the CUSA level (more likely than winning the ACC at Duke). If he becomes the guy to turn this SMU trainwreck around, he will get notice from the big boys...especially if he opens the offense up a little and puts the ball in the air more frequently. When he had a QB who could throw and speed at the wideout positions (which he did at Ga Southern in their National Championship years), there were plenty of deep balls thrown to keep the defense honest. He might like the personnel he sees at SMU right now...at least on offense.

PJ's quarterback for three years at Georgia Southern was Greg Hill, during his career he ran and threw for over 3,000 yards, if I recall correctly. The rushing aspect of the offense gets all the publicity, but Johnson's offense can certainly throw the ball with the right personnel.
