NO Chan Gailey.....

Postby westexSMU » Sat Dec 08, 2007 12:32 pm

Huge mistake.....Decent coach but just another Kragthorpe. Sure, he would do better than Bennett but not the type of confident coach who is going to rebuild our program.....Orsini, everyone left on your list is better than the FIRED GT coach Gailey, who PJ is replacing at GT............His DC John Tenuta would be better than Gailey and Tenuta would be about #50 on my list.

[Let's try to have a discussion without name calling and the thread getting hijacked because I really am interested in folks opinion on this one]

I say Gailey is better than hiring an unproven coordinator. Gailey may not be flashy but he did win at GT. He just couldn't beat UGA. An unproven coordinator is rolling the dice and we just can't afford that.

Gailey would be fine for any other university that's not in Dallas. Chan Gailey = failed Cowboys coach. That's all he's known for in Dallas. We need someone who would inspire interest in SMU football to the area, Chan isn't that guy.

Did he really fail? He got to playoffs his two years here. He got crossways with Aikman. Guess who wins that battle....

SMU has had several former great HC's that SMU has either refused to consider or has already said no to. SMU's search should RECONSIDER some these former proven coaches instead of screwing up this opportunity by picking another weak coach....With the kind of money raised, other names should surface next week. so please don't rush to hire someone who is not going to help our program in the long run.

In the eyes of Dallas football lovers, yes he failed.

Hey I agree with you. I would much rather have RN, GB, or Bowers, but reality is Turner is not going to go that route unless the big money puts the screws to him.

Also, though I am a big Orsini fan, Orsini does seem to be stuck on just coaches he has worked with in the past and I guess that is why he was blind sided so bad by PJ.....Orsini needs to consider looking elsewhere.
