WE are on to Mike Shula. We will pay him 1.1 - 1.3 mil / year.
I don't see Chan, Fran, Bowden, Applewhite. No way.
It will be Mike Shula.

"If Barnett can land a $1.5 million job at will, why in the world did he publicly state his interest in SMU and why is he still unemployed. Furthermore, why is he not being interviewed by any schools."
Public statements. How many of those have we had? UC paid him that much when he left. Why take another job making less? How do you know he has not been interviewed? It takes time after what happened at UC, but we should have jumped on him from the beginning, but I knew we would not. Why are we even discussing it. He aint coming.

Considering the way SMU pays its employees, we could have won zero games in the last 20 years and not wasted as much money as most places. Coach Bennett didn't win a lot of games for us, but in a "get what you pay for" kind of way, his salary was very low compared to most college coaches. It's not like Baylor and other BCS schools throwing a million-plus at Guy Morriss (oops) for the same low number of victories.

I'd be comepletely cool with that, if he'd leave the Jags immediately and start hitting the recruiting trail.

Don't compare us to other programs. We don't deserve the comparison until we start behaving like other programs. Morriss did not make 1.5mil per season.

Morris was making 1.2 mil at Baylor, and SMU was ranked #5 in HC salary per win this year.

[deleted]. The girls BB coach is the highest paid on Baylor campus. Pull it up and prove it. His salary was similar to PB. Maybe 750k. We won 1 game. How could we be 5th?

Bigdaddy, if you didn't know that Guy Morriss was making over a mil a year to coach Baylor, it makes me question how much you really do know about college football. And then to be so emphatic in your denial?
It's been common knowledge ever since Morriss was hired that Baylor had to pay over a million to get him. They got desperate and had to overpay to get a mediocre coach...a scenario that could repeat itself soon on the Hilltop.
Although your facts were wrong in this instance, I enjoy your colorful posts, Bigdaddy. Keep'em coming.

I was shocked by it myself, but it also explains why Briles got $1.2 million as well. Hard to pay your new coach less than the guy you just fired. (Plus I think Briles was making $900,000 [?] at UH anyway.)

Interesting. I had seen 1.2. Maybe that was just the base and didn't include any additional compensation or incentives.
How insane is that though--the Baylor coach making $1.8 mil? I tell you, I'm in the wrong profession!
