like Orsini says......why name a bunch of names until we have our guy?

what possible good comes from him tossing out names
except that you want to satisfy your curiosity?

i think it would give us a little faith that the current administration has a plan other than trying to give us the vague impression that they have a plan.

So we've established that it will in fact be a "man."
It's a crappy job but someone's gotta do it.

Recruits would know that we are doing something about getting a coach.

Is that permissible in the PC world we live in? Can we techically go on record as saying it is a male without being sued?

nobody really wants Orsini blabbing names. What they want are signs of action and progress. Do you really think anyone is going to take this job without visiting the campus? once a campus visit happens, it leaks. Why? because people see the guy. We dont seem to even have any campus visits happening.

Not knowing who we are even looking at (besides PJ and a few others who rejected us) is wearing on everyone I think.

i know what you mean but he could be creating a PR disaster that could forever haunt him. i think if he uses superlatives to describe his candidate ("best coach in America") and he falls short and gets the East Oklahoma State School for the Blind and Deaf Offensive Coordinatorthen it makes him look silly.

i can just see the comments on PF next season...."...(after another SMU loss) now that, my friends, was the best coach available in America last year..."

You mean just like the years of people repeating "I have forgotten more .................."
I know - tiring, at best. Hopefully PonyFans get creative between now and then.

What bothers me is that at least three national coach of the year types have shown interest in the position and we are 7 weeks into the search and have nothing to show for it. Additionally, a coach who he describes as the perfect fit and offered to overpay for really would not be the perfect fit. It bothers me that our leadership is not more in tune with reality. Also, those national coach of the year types who have shown interest have not been contacted.

That's it!?!?! That's all he has to say for the last 7 weeks?!?!

So you'd feel better and you think it would be better for SMU if Orsini had gone public with every name he is speaking with? Lets say he has spoken to 10 guys and 5 have said no......you think that is good for SMU to let that be known? You'd probably be the one screaming the loudest "5 have turned us down....omg the sky is fallling!".

I want a coach named soon too.....but your/our short term curiosity and assumptions from the dark are not part of Orsini's obligations. Steve Orsini is thinking long term and you are in a panic over whether it is this week, last week. Quite Frankly I am glad Orsini didnt make a quick choice and we end up with an Art Briles......if he would have you'd probably be complaining about Art Briles or Mike Sherman not exactly being a "wow" .

What a joke of an athletic department we have!!!

If you really believe that......whats that make you since
you are apparently a fan of that same athletic department's on field productions?

If it's all a joke, and everything is soooo bleak why do you guys volunteer for such misery?....Why not just move on?

To me you guys are like people I have worked with that [deleted] & moan about how horrible their job is for years......it's like "there's no ball & chain" around your ankle!

Exactly, a waste of 7 weeks. There is no WOW coach out there? I mean who is available that would WOW any one? We are not going to lure a proven coach from any school, so we will have to pull from either the unemployed or the coordinator pool. Is a coordinator the best fit? I am sure there are plenty of guys out there that will be great head coaches, but what is it that we are looking for????

I thought going into this search, we would be looking for a proven winner and some one that could sell SMU. Unless we find a coordinator that was previously a HC, how do we know their "selling" abilities? A pro coach is always a shaky proposition as you never know how their are going to enjoy recruiting, or how well they do it.

I had hoped our head start would allow us to get a coach in, talk to the players, get started on a plan for spring practice, get a start on recruiting and elevaluating, and start selling the program.

NONE OF THAT IS HAPPENING...a new coach will not talk to players until the new year, or even possibly moving into February.

I am so disappointed...I only wonder if the Mustang Club will be hurt by this fiasco....

Ponyfans -

I am worn out as I know most, if not all of you, are as well. Lets face it, Turner and Orsini have completely botched this coaching search. Fortune 500 companies can fill CEO posts in a matter of days or even hours. There are 117 Div I A schools out there...and we are in our 7th week. It is insulting to all alumni and students.

I'm not buying the party line of hiring the "best coach in America." Orsini was on the ticket today to do damage control and still he sounded clueless! We are nowhere closer today than we were 7 weeks ago. In fact, I say we are even futher away. With Baylor, A&M, GT, and other schools getting press about their coaches, we are getting very little press and what press we are getting is about our inability to hire a coach in a non-bcs conference and losing our recruits!

I think we should schedule a gift exchange because I don't think SMU will give us a coach by Christmas...
