Someone correct me if I am wrong, but didn't Fran go 7-5 and 10-3 and 'Bama. This after taking over a program that went 3-8 the previous season. Also, 'Bama lied to Fran and screwed him over on the probation problems they had. How well has 'Bama done since he left?

He left the cupboard full. Sour Grapes. Fran brought both of the greatest Coaches in modern TCU History. As for Aggie decommits-we weren't going to get any of them anyway but I'll concede it would have been better 4 weeks ago.

Yeah, Stallion, I don't mean Aggie decommits, I was referring to those on whatever "List B" or "List C" that Fran had access to. That and JUCOs.

The biggest upside with Fran is the possibility of his son, Brad, coming here--a JUCO head coach (and defensive coordinator) who went undefeated last season and won the 2006 JUCO national championship. Went 7-2 this season in regular play, with three defensive shutouts.

I'm not a big Fran fan, but this two-for-one special would be appealing.

dude, it ain't the wins and losses--- it's the NCAA probation.

Of all people, SMU and TCU fans ought to be keenly aware of that.

My biggest problem w/ hiring Fran (aside from looking like bottom-feeders to TCU and A&M fans) is that we could have had him weeks ago. Same with Coker. It makes no sense, and I have to agree with the Bolg's latest entry that our search is REALLY going badly.

Here is my (uninformed) list of Orsini's first choices:

1. PJ (gone to GT)
2. Krags (stays at UL)
3. June Jones (who knows?)
4. Neuheisel (looks like UCLA)
5. Calhoun (stays at AF)

I am sure there are others that Orsini aimed for that simply denied us. And now, b/c there is nobody left, we are interviewing the guys we could have had weeks ago.

Solution: Either go ahead and hire one of these retreads and just get it over with, or Orsini needs to go begging for more $ to add to the war chest and make a run at that "mystery" candidate that will blow our socks off.

Or hire Norm Chow.

I don't care that he "broke our hearts". He gave us Gary and I am forever thankful for that. I will not get over his wearing a crimson red tie to the Heisman ceremony where he was still the TCU HC and was allegedly supporting LT. Not to mention what he did to the players when he left Alabama and the sleazy newsletter deal at A&M. Those last two things have nothing to do with TCU...he's got a track record of not respecting his own players and has shown questionable character. You can try to call it sour grapes but those are facts.

I can see your point on the second two but get over the tie. If the tie had a logo or something maybe but it was a red tie?!

Lets keep in mind this is the SMU job and not the Longhorns or Gators job.

Coach Fran.

Since the Coach Fran meeting with Steve O. is plastered all over the paper and internet can we assume he will probably be the next HC. Which may not be a bad thing.

So you think it was coincidental that he was in discussions with Bama and just randomly pulls out a crimson red tie to wear to the Heisman ceremony? He is then hired by Bama a couple days later. I'm not losing any sleep over it - I just think it is incredibly disrespectful. I think SMU hiring Fran woiuld be great for our rivalry so, by all means, please feel free to do so. I think most TCU fans would simply find it amusing to see Fran on the SMU sideline.

If we could pull this off, I would hope that Orsini would pull the trigger on this immediately. As someone pointed out weeks ago, the advantage to Fran is his knowledge of recruits in Texas. He has the football camps that bring hundreds of solid players in every year. There is no way that we would get the top 20 or 30 players in those camps to come here. However, the next 50-70 would probably be better than anything else we've been recruiting, and would be better than most of CUSA.

I agree that if he is the coach, then it should have been done sooner. However, if I am not mistaken, it wasn't until the last two weeks that his severance package from A&M became final, and that may have been a hold up. If Fran brings his JUCO coach of a son, who could then bring in some JUCO players to shore up our defense, we would be stupid not to do this deal.

why would Norm Chow come to SMU? he is an offensive coordinator in the NFL...why subject himself to a program that hasnt won in twenty years. stop dreaming of Norm Chow.

at this point, i have tiredhead...just hire Fran and get this mess over with...

Hey Frog Fran had nothing to do with the NCAA probatrion at Alabama. He left because of it. If you are goingto post "facts" look it up first. You look uninformed at best.

Laugh back at them for hiring Sherman, out of coaching for 10 years at the NCAA level.

Also, Fran went 10-2 last year? They went 7-5 this year with losses to THREE top 6 teams.

yeah, he sucks.
